"Girls no ahead and wear the immodest ones because it's too much of a pain to find a modest one," she said. However, some stores stock a larger variety of modest dresses to meet the unique needs of Utah County customers. Hut it wasn't always that way. "We've come leaps and bounds to accommodate customers," cus-tomers," Anderson said. She said the change in stocking more modest dresses dress-es and cover ups has suit. J.C. Penney Co. Inc. at the Provo Towne Centre is trying try-ing to meet the needs of customers cus-tomers by stocking modest dresses, said Larayn Ilalton, merchandising assistant in the misses' department. Halton said it has been a problem for the store to provide pro-vide modest dresses and keep up with the demand for shawls and jackets. Concerned mothers request more modest formal dresses on a daily basis, she said. The store addressed the issue of stocking more modest mod-est prom dresses, and she expects to see more modest dresses within the next year, Halton said. At the Bridal Center in Lehi, owner Connie Nielsen takes a different approach to selling modest prom dresses. Nielsen alters formal immodest dresses by adding sleeves, wider straps or shawls rather than buying modest formal dresses. Nielsen said she purchases extra material to match the formal dresses she buys. "Well do whatever needs to be done so that girls can be modest," she said. Modest prom dresses may be difficult to find even in Utah County, but there is hope.
