Neighborhoods discuss possibility of redisricting for council seats By Julie Bellon Neighborhood chairs raised the issue recently of voting districts in Pleasant Grove to provide feedback for the city council, and four large neighborhoods voted overwhelmingly in favor of it. Manila, Mudhole, Northfield and Big Springs neighborhoods discussed the premise of the city being divided up into districts dis-tricts with one city council member being elected from each of the four pre-set boundaries, as well as one at-large member being elected. This would promote the idea that if a council member mem-ber is from a certain area of the city they would be sensitive sen-sitive to the needs of that particular area. Elaine Bonham commented com-mented that "it would be a great idea to look at that and have more specific representation rep-resentation in government, especially where development develop-ment is taking place." However, Chaz Waggoner pointed out that "You can limit yourself that way. What if two really great people wanted to run but lived near each other?" Tina Peterson, city attorney, attor-ney, told the audience that it may not be possible to do districting because Pleasant Grove is a third class city. However, with the majority major-ity voting for the idea and only three votes against, she said she would research it and get back to the neighborhoods.
