The squad opened the region season with a 15-8, 15-4 victory over Orem on Sept. 6. Cook and Shoell had 4 kills each, Tullis had 4 aces, and Roberts had 4 blocks. In a three-game thriller with Springville on the 13th, the Vikings were edged 15-8, 5-15, 13-15. Winger and Roberts had 4 kills each, while Tullis had 7 aces. At home Sept. 24, they defeated the Timpanogos Timberwolves 4-1. Pleasant Grove then completed its week with a 3-2 win on the Mountain View Bruins' home courts Sept. 25. In Sept. 24 action, Timpanogos' No. 1 singles player, Ashley Young, defeated Madeline Mahoney 6-0, 6-0. The Vikings' No. 2 singles player, play-er, Chelsea Thayer, outlasted outlast-ed Jocelyn Thomas 6-0, 6-0. Viking Lindy Jorgensen won her No. 3 singles match 6-4, 6-0. Todd Fugal, Lewis and Mickey Ottonelli had interceptions while Todd Whatcott recorded a fumble fum-ble recovery. PGJH FRESHMEN: Pleasant Grove defeated the Provo Bulldogs 42-19 Saturday in PG. The Viking offense etched out a total of 306 yards to the Pioneers' 198. The Vikings carried the ball 35 times for 249 yards and were 2 of 5 for 57 yards passing. The Bulldogs were " driven back all day long as they ended up with minus- .' 40 yards rushing and 238 yards passing. The Viking ; defense was overwhelming, with team tackles and inter-! ceptions hitting the Bulldogs relentlessly. Kyle Beecher' and C.J. Morris both had interceptions. The offense was explosive as usual as QB Russ Patten carried the ball -5-times for 60 yards and 2 TDs and running back Ted Owens rushing 10 times for 98 yards and 2 TDs. Also -scoring for the Vikings were Jake Hoyt on a 29-yard ' pass reception and Mike Fralick on a 2-yard run.
