Getting Out 4l i ft-? - v .I....:: Mhr&..jL -ill, Photo by Linda Butler Youngsters enjoy the playground at Chrisville Park. Hidden Chrisville Park is a local neighborhood gem By Linda Butler Nestled in a two-acre plot behind homes on 800 and 900 North and 100 and 200 West, Chrisville Park is one of the lesser-known parks in Pleasant Grove. "To understand Chrisville Park, you need to know about Chrisville," says Jack Cook, former Pleasant Grove mayor and longtime resident. Building in the "Chrisville" area was begun in 1949. The area was developed by and named for S. Christensen, known as "Chris." During the early '50s the alfalfa field and orchard from 800 North to 1100 North west of 100 West was subdivided and filled with frame homes. Land behind the homes on the block bordering 800-900 North and 100-200 West was left open, to be used as a park. During the '50s there were a lot of kids growing up in the ' area and the Chrisville Park was a popular play space, said Cook. There were some toys ' for children to play on, grassy areas and trees to climb. ' Over the years the park became a popular spot for older children to use as a baseball field. Through the '60s and '70s, Chrisville Park was used for a variety vari-ety of youth ball games. "It was a neighborhood neigh-borhood sandlot," according to resident Jim Gibson. However due to the close proximity of homes, residents felt that some regulation regula-tion was needed to assure that children and residents could enjoy the park safe ly. In August, 1989, a committee was organized to set up rules for the park and to work with the city for improving the park. According to Gilson, Chrisville Park is unique in that much of the early development and care was done by neighbors. Neighbors helped with the watering and care of the park. The Kiwanis Club put in the cement wall that surrounds the playground. Other improvements were the result of Eagle Scout projects. There are two covered picnic tables and a barbecue grill in the northeast corner. There is a drinking fountain, but no restrooms. Since the early '90s, Chrisville Park has been maintained by Pleasant Grove City. Now Chrisville Park is a neighborhood neighbor-hood gem. New playground equipment is especially espe-cially enjoyed by small children; they can swing, slide, bounce, and spin while adults picnic, play horseshoes, or relax1 on wooden benches. The large grassy area is a nice spot for playing games or relaxing, too. ' ! ' Chrisville Park can be accessed on '900 North and through a narrow walk-Way walk-Way on 200 West. ' Because the park is in . a neighborhood, neighbor-hood, care should be taken when parking park-ing not to block, residents' driveways. Young childreA especially enjoy Chrisville Park because of it's smaller size. It's a very nice, relaxing, comfortable comfort-able park. fr """""in """ n r1 n n V rvS mR'er''f Fristy Courteous Service y II i.N" Frn Faed Lockers kvfsilcable NiNi I i i f Keebler21b f Best Yet 21b i Best Yet Whole or Sliced ll I I tt x-il I CoittJV rAnlioc I I Tl t t II a noney Lrranams jauuwiui wwivitj ruidiuci SIM mmvmmmi rl I mm l J J imu M- f 12 Pack Hires PLEASAFJT GROVE 935 S.
