Show New Utah! - Wednesday, July 25, 2001 - Page 18 Children's Choir to hold auditions The Utah Children's Choir, conducted by Kay Asay, is having auditions for openings in the choirs for next-year on Thursday, Aug. 2, from 7 until 8:30 pm. Auditions will be held at the American Heritage School, 100 E. 125 North, in Pleasant Grove. To make an appointment appoint-ment please call Kay Asay at 756-6450 or 785-7416. Asay founded the Utah Children's Choir 18 years ago and emphasizes performing per-forming great music by the master composers, as well as folk songs and contemporary con-temporary music. She serves as the Children's Choir Chairman in the Utah American Choral Directors Association. She also is recognised nationally nation-ally in her field of expertise expert-ise and has studied in England with internationally internation-ally known conductor, Dr. Doreen Rao. The UCC staff teaches the children about their own individual voice and works with each child individually as well as in the group choir experience, experi-ence, emphasizing love of "singing and giving them the skills to do it. Vocal Coach, Marilyn Rudolph works with each individual, individ-ual, helping them discover their potential, but not pushing them beyond their 'child' voice. The choir, has performed per-formed recently with the Utah Valley Symphony, with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and with the Utah Baroque Ensemble. To be eligible singer must be between the ages of 8-15. Auditions are for placement in one of three choirs. Auditioners should come with a song prepared to sing, and furnish fur-nish his or her own accompaniment, accom-paniment, if desired. County to hold Dutch Oven cook-off Aug. 11 On Aug. 11, people from all over the valley are invited to display their culinary genius in a Dutch Oven Cook-off at-the at-the Utah County Historic Courthouse grounds. Over $500 in prizes will be given. Everyone is invited to enter. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., novice and advanced teams will cook to their hearts' content. The event is sanctioned sanc-tioned by the International Dutch Oven Society (IDOS). Along with the certified judges, two celebrity judges, Dickie and Angel Shannon from 94.1 KDOJ will participate. The winners win-ners qualify to compete at the IDOS 2002 World Championships, which is traditionally held in the Cache Valley area. Everyone who loves to cook Dutch Oven is encouraged encour-aged to participate whether they are experts or novices. Entry deadline is July 28th.
