Father's Day' opens at VCP Last Friday, valley Center Playhouse in Lindon began its latest production, pro-duction, "Father's Day." The show is about detective detec-tive and bachelor Daniel Clarke. Daniel's aunt's stepsister dies leaving Daniel with her four kids and a completely new lifestyle. Daniel feels the children would be better served elsewhere else-where until he falls in love with the Attorney for the Department of Social Services, Jane Gregory. The show will run every Friday, Saturday and Monday until Aug. 20. Prices for the show are $6 for adults and $5 for chil dren, students and seniors. Families can get in for $25. Children under 4 and babies will not be admitted into the show. The box office opens at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30. SCERA presents regional premiere of Broadway's 'The Scarlet Pimpernel' The Broadway musical version of "The Scarlet Pimpernel" will makes it's regional debut at the SCERA Schell Outdoor Theater Aug. 3-18 (Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays at 8 p.m.) as part of the SCERA's 2001 summer season. Tickets for $8 Adult and $ S' Children (age 3-11) are avail able in advance from 10-5 weekdays at SCERA, 745 South State, Orem or by calling call-ing (801) 225-2569 or 225-ARTS1. 225-ARTS1. Nielsen says SCERA's community theater program will be the first in Utah to produce "The Scarlet Pimpernel," and is pleased to present something new to SCERA audiences. Brad Montgomery, who has performed at Tuacahn and in commercials and film, takes on the role of Sir Percy Blakeney alias the Pimpernel. Montgomery plays the villain Chauvelin. Pimpernel, named after a red, star-shaped wildflower that became his calling card, represents a brave band of Englishmen who routinely risked their lives to rescue doomed souls during the famed Reign of Terror in 1794. The Pimpernel is willing will-ing to hide behind his alter ego a dimwitted British fop named Percy so he can hide in plain sight among his enemies ene-mies and learn their plans. The SCERA production is directed by Jerry Elison, with David Whitlock as co-director and choreographer, Robert Barham as assistant director, and Marcie Jacobsen as musical director. New Utah! - Wednesday, July 25, 2001 - Page 9 Local ballet dancers win scholarships Several of Utah Regional Ballet dancers received full scholarships during the recent annual Regional Dance AmericaPacific Festival. These scholarships will allow local dancers to study at some of the country's premiere dance schools. During the festival's final night gale, seven dancers, trained by Artistic Director Jacqueline Colledge, were awarded scholarships based on their auditions during the four-day festival. Brittany Shoemaker of Orem will train at American Ballet Theatre in New York City; Jennifer Price of Lehi will train at Rock School in Philadelphia, Pa.; Naomi Reid of Woodland Hills will train at Joffrey Ballet School in New York City; Leslie Evans of Alpine will train at Richmond Ballet School in Richmond, Va. Heather Salt of South Jordan received the highest honor awarded by Regional Dance America a full tuition scholarship to the Craft of Choreography Conference in Austin, Texas. The Craft of Choreography Conference provides intensive inten-sive study for a select group of nationally chosen choreographers choreogra-phers and dancers to train and perform new choreography. choreogra-phy. Stephanie Ryder of Springville also received a scholarship to train at the Craft of Choreography Conference. Rachel Lanham of Orem was chosen as an alternate. Other URB dancers, Kelly Mortensen of Highland and Lindsey Nelson of Orem, auditioned earlier in the season sea-son and were both accepted to Boston Ballet School's summer sum-mer program in Boston, Mass. Ivana Wood of Pleasant Grove was awarded a full scholarship to San Francisco Ballet School. The Farley Family Reunion Actor James Arrington's hilarious take on families, fami-lies, "The Farley Family Reunion," will begin a month-long run on Saturday, June 23, at the Little London Dinner Theater, 20 S.
