I is From the old and historic to the most modern in architecture and conveniences, conven-iences, St. George has it all. Whether you just want to relax in the sunshine, drink in the beauty of the red rock country, play golf on some of the most challenging courses in the western United States, visit historic sites or shop in everything from large malls to small specialty shops it can all be done . in St. George. For the golfer; there are nine courses to choose from in the St. George area. They range in size from nine to 27 holes can be enjoyed by a wide variety of skill levels. Entrada, the St. George Golf Club, Southgate, Green Spring, and Sky Mountain are all 18 hole, public courses with varying difficulties. The newest course in St. George is the Johnny Miller-designed Entrada Golf Club. A privately owned, public course, Entrada, known for its rolling dunes, ancient black lava beds and winding arroyos, is on its way to becoming becom-ing one of the premier courses in the state of Utah. It is a perfect example of the Johnny Miller design philosophy: "The natural contours of the site should dictate the design. A truly creative designer is able to look over a property and then take it two or three steps beyond... to visualize all that it can become." St. George Golf Club is considered the most improved course in the state by many professionals. It has long, beautiful fairways and many new tees and greens. Two new greens have been added to the front nine holes at Southgate, lengthening the play and creating a bigger challenge for the golfer. Also, four new teas have been added to offer play to a variety of golfers. Located in Washington, Green Spring has been called "The finest golf courses in the state." It is set among hills, ravines and gorges which create wonderful won-derful natural obstacles and has a beautiful beau-tiful backdrop of red cliffs and Pine Valley Mountain. Sky Mountain is located locat-ed 15 miles from down town St. George, in Hurricane. Set on rolling terrain in a picturesque setting, Sky Mountain has multiple tee boxes so that all skill levels of golfer can enjoy the course. The only private club in St. George is Bloomington. Open to members and guests only, it does offer reciprocal agreements with other country clubs. Dixie Red Hills and Twin Lakes are nine hole courses. Dixie Red Hills offers beautiful scenery and challenging play while Twin Lakes was called "the Most Picturesque, by Utah Holiday Magazine. For those who like a different kind of challenge, there is the Sunbrook Golf Club. A 27-hole course, Sunbrook offers an opportunity to play a round -and-a-half in three distinct sections of nine holes each. The course was designed by world-renowned golf course architect Ted Robinson and was rated by Golf Digest as the No.l golf course in Utah for 1997-98. Robinson considers three of its holes among the best he has ever designed. St. George also sports the unique Southgate Family Golf Center; an 1800 square foot indoor educational golf facility facil-ity that offers computerized golf swing analysis, photo, and computer graphic displays and video analysis systems. Open to the public year-round, the facility facil-ity also includes open and covered tees on the driving range. But you don't have to be a golfer to enjoy a stay in St. George. For those who are interested in state history and pioneer sites, St. George is the place to be.
