Doyle Shields 1924-2009 L - Jit, Ronnihis Doyle Shields passed away at home on January 7, 2009 surrounded by loved ones. Born April 1, 1924 in Sugar-ville, Sugar-ville, Millard County, Utah to Romulus A. and JaCosa Jane Theobald Shields. Married Mar-ried Iva Ann Nielsen on Sept. 16, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple. Graduated from Delta High School and Brigham Young University. Uni-versity. World War II veteran, serving with the Infantry at the "Battle of the Bulge." Employed in the Accounting Department of US Steel's Geneva Works for 29 12 years. Active member of the LDS Church, never missing a ward teaching assignment. He loved supporting children and .grandchildren .grand-children in their school, sports and church activities, and going with Ann, a newspaper correspondent, on new stories. Survived by wife, 2 children, Craig (Sharleen) Shields, Gleanne (J. Dan) Taylor; 5 grandchildren, Annaleise (Steven) Dearinger, Nicole (Brad) Washburn, Nathan (Jenni) Shields, Andrew Shields, CarolAnn (Shane) Mower; and the light of his life, 4 great grandchildren, grand-children, Analaya, Addison, Elizabeth, Eliza-beth, and Lyndsee; a sister-in-law Aurelia Swenson, and many loving lov-ing nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. The family gives special thanks to Denise & David Lofquist for all their respite care; Dr. Von Welch, Bonnie and Gail at the Internal Medicine Clinic; Pam Hardy, RN, Jason Ottesen and the staff of Ap-plegate Ap-plegate Home Care and Hospice, and family, friends and neighbors for their support and loving care. Funeral services were Monday, January 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the American Fork 6th Ward, 320 North 100 East. Chad Newbern Butt Chad Newbern Burt, age 67, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on January 11, 2009 after many years of struggling with a heart condition condi-tion and blindness. He was born on December 1, 1942 in Lehi, Utah, the son of Jesse Newbern Butt & Florence Victoria Bamberry. He was the youngest of three siblings and is survived by two sisters, Anna B. Cook and Yvonne Nelson. He also had a son Phillip N. Butt. He graduated from Lehi High School and Weber We-ber State University with a bach elors degree in Police Science. He was a Vietnam Veteran from both the Army and Air Force. His hobbies included model trains, guns, and as a kid he loved horses. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Wing Mortuary Chapel, 118 East Main, Lehi, Utah. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Shirley Jean Peterson Tripp Hi " 4 ' ' " Shirley Jean Peterson Tripp, our loving mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister and friend, passed away unexpectedly unex-pectedly on Sunday, January Janu-ary 11, 2009, in American Fork, Utah. Shirley, the daughter of Lester D. and Glayds Phillips Peterson, was born May 18, 1930, in Lehi, Utah. She was raised in Lehi and graduated gradu-ated from Lehi High School. She married her sweetheart George F. Tripp on August 25, 1948, in the Salt Lake Temple. Shirley's greatest joy came from loving and serving her family. fami-ly. She and George are the parents of six children: Georgia Jean (Ed) Flinn, Clay Gordon (Judy) Tripp, Nanette (Bob) Kirkpatrick, Ranae (Kyle) Baternan, Trade (Randy) Bateman, and Stacie (Paul) Bishop, 26 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss Shirley's love and care as evidence by 60 plus years of family Sunday dinners, thousands of jars of fruits and vegetables bottled and shared, George's rocking rock-ing horses and chairs decorated with Shirley's artistic flair, embroidered em-broidered pillowcases, hand-sown clothing, afghans, and quilts so lovingly stitched and graciously given away. Shirley was always "doing" for someone else, and she will be greatly missed! Shirley was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many call ings including Relief Society President, Young Women's Wom-en's President, Presi-dent, Primary President, 20 plus years in the Spanish Span-ish Temple Extraction program and most recently as a temple worker in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. Shirley loved music and had a rich alto voice. She served many years as Primary Chorister, Ward Choir Director, and Ward Chorister. Shirley was a fun loving person who enjoyed over 55 years of association as-sociation with her beloved friends in the Letitian Club, and she enjoyed being Lehi's "first lady" while George served as Lehi's Mayor from 1983-1990. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Keith, and many other loved ones. Surviving Sur-viving siblings include Kenneth (Judy) Peterson and Glade (Lola) Peterson. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lehi 1st Ward LDS Chapel, 200 South 200 West. He was born in American Fork, Utah on April 16, 1925 to H. Alfred and Lourene Elizabeth Hansen. He was married to Glen-na Glen-na Marie Baker in the Salt Lake Temple on April 14, 1950. They had 5 children: Nanette (Sharrif) Dajany, Dee (Barry) Boldman, Philip (Anna) Hansen, Kirk (Lisa) Hansen, and Jim (Nikkf) Hansen. Earl was a general contractor and owned Hansen Brothers Basements. Base-ments. He constructed hundreds of foundations under buildings throughout Utah County. After retirement, he and Glenna took great pleasure in traveling the country with the Good Sam's. They spent many winters with friends in Scenic, Arizona. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions of leadership throughout through-out the years. Earl was a quiet man and very generous with his time and means. He touched the lives of all those with whom he came in contact and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his children, 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Lawrence and Ar- ...if si thur, and his sister Mary LaPriel Atkinson. Preceded in death by his wife and his brother Howard. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 15, 2009 in the American Fork 1st Ward Chapel, 381 South 300 East. Joy Bennett Greenwood Joy Bennett Greenwood left loved ones in this life on January 9, 2009 to join many others waiting for her. She and her beloved sister, June, were born on June 27, 1923 to Howard and Violet Bennett in Meadow, Utah. Her life was marked by unconditional love and service to all, especially her "little treasures." trea-sures." After careers with the Alpine School District and the State of Utah, she served two service missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her talent to teach and touch others with that love and service made her the personification of her name: "Joy." She married Harold Greenwood Green-wood on July 3, 1946. He has been waiting for her since 1991. She is survived by her sons Jay (Marilyn) and Dale (Sharon), her daughter Jean (Gary) Carlton, and her "Little Treasures" - eleven elev-en grandchildren and ten greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren.
