Besides being excellent shooters, the Lions are very active defensively and made a lot of their baskets off fast breaks started by intercepting intercept-ing American Fork passes, especially early in the game. A trey by Melissa Dunlop on a pass from Jayni Melton was the only American Fork score of the first quarter as Payson built a 19-3 advantage. advan-tage. In the second period, the Cavemen did a much better job on both ends of the floor and actually outscored the Lions 18-13 during the stretch. Shantell Durrant sparked the offense with eight of those points, and Lacie Durrant contributed a nice floor game with a basket, an assist, a steal and two boards in the quarter. However, Payson came back strong after the break to build a 61-29 margin by the end of the third, and cruised to the victory.
