December 4, 2003 - Page 14 Bands to compete Teen art class is offered for holiday gift giving The SCERA will launch a Battle of the Bands competition com-petition Dec. 5 at 11 p.m. with three area rock bands whose music is especially popular with high school and college students. The Powerless, Red Rock and Final Truth will compete for $250 plus an entertainment package in a contest where the winner will be determined by the audience. Tickets are available at the SCERA (645 S. State St., Orem) or by calling 225-2569. Prices are $4 each or $3 with a student identification. The battle is coordinated coordinat-ed by Dana Robison, ECERA events director, who said the event has been planned to find another way to spotlight talented individuals in the community. He was responsible for securing the office with modular furniture valued at $10,000. Drawing "Just for Teens" is an art class for youth 12 to 18 and is being offered during the month of January Janu-ary by the American Fork Fine Arts CouncilVisual Art Board. A gift certificate is available avail-able if parents are giving this class to their youth as a present. The instructor for the class is Dr. E. Roland Brown of Highland. Brown has a BA and MA in applied lin guistics and a Doctorate of Education: however, he has been a professional artist since 1977 and a professional profession-al art teacher since 1993. The classes will meet beginning on Saturday, Jan. 10, and continue each Saturday Sat-urday until Jan. 31. Classes will meet for an hour and a half, beginning at 10 a.m. in the Veterans Memorial Hall, 53 N. Center St., American Fork. Cost of registering is $25 and all materials will be furnished. Curriculum content will be activities related to basic drawing principles by sketching still life and landscapes. land-scapes.
