Harmer Patriarch Harmer, 93, Grove, Lewis J. of Pleasant passed away at the home of his daughter in West Valley City on November Novem-ber 25, 2003. Lewis was born on January Janu-ary 26, 1910 in Mapleton, Utah, a son of Loren E. and Sylvia E. Houtz Harmer.,, He married Anna Lucille Wiscombe in the Salt Lake Temple on November 18, 1935. Lucille preceded him in death on August 7, 2001. Their reunion will be joyous joy-ous with each other and their youngest son, Robert, who died in 1995. Lewis and Lucille were married over 66 years. They lived their entire married life in Utah County and in Pleasant Grove since 1944. Their daughter, Linda, and her husband, Gayle Rosenberg, lovingly cared for them in their home for the past few years. Lewis graduated from Springville High School and Brigham Young University. He majored in Accounting and English. He was employed by Utah-Idaho Sugar Company and Utah Packers Inc. At various times he was chairman of the Pleasant Grove Planning Plan-ning and Zoning Commission, Commis-sion, Pleasant Grove City Recorder, Pleasant Grove City Councilman and Utah County Auditor. Previous to retirement he was employed by the Utah State Department of Finance for 15 years. He was a gifted writer and authored one published book, "Revelation", and,, several published magazine articles. He was a lifelong student of 'Mormon and American History. Lewis and Lucille enjoyed traveling; they visited all 50 states and large sections of Canada and Mexico. Lewis J. Harmer. was ordained patriarch to the' Timpanogos Stake on January Janu-ary 14, 1968.,, Later he became patriarch . of the Pleasant Grove Stake. He served nearly 30 years in this special calling. He had been an active member of the IDS Church all his life, serving at various times as President of the MIA, President Presi-dent of the Elders Quorum, Ward Clerk, Second Counselor Coun-selor in the Bishopric, Bishop Bish-op of the Pleasant Grove First Ward and High Councilman Coun-cilman in Timpanogos Stake. He enjoyed teaching in the various church organizations. In his younger years, he was an active member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce serving as chairman chair-man of project committees which won first place in State and National contests. con-tests. He was chairman of the Pleasant Grove Centennial Centen-nial Committee for Community Commu-nity Beautification, commemorating com-memorating the entrance of the pioneers into Utah in 1847. Pleasant Grove was awarded first place in this statewide competition. Lewis is survived by his daughter, 3 sons, and daughter-in-law: Linda and Gayle Rosenberg, West Valley Val-ley City; David and Nina Harmer, Westminster, CO; Jerry and Sandy Harmer, Salt Lake City; David Fel-ton, Fel-ton, Houston, TX; and April Harmer Harrison, Pleasant Grove; 26 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-granddaughter who will miss the love and wisdom of their patriarch grandfather. Donna was born in Monroe, Mon-roe, Utah September 19, 1924, the daughter of James R. and Eva Ochlella Haslam. She attended school in Monroe and Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove and graduated from South Sevier High School. She married her sweetheart, sweet-heart, Iowa Hall in the Manti Temple and they had a wonderful life together. Donna was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was intensely proud of her posterity. Her quiet, loving demeanor set her apart, and she was loved by all who knew her. She was especially adept at writing verse and poetry. She enjoyed leading and helping her husband in craft work. Donna was a self-taught pianist and organist and loved musicals. i Stanford Long Giles Stanford Long Giles, age 81, passed away of natural causes on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at Heritage Care Center Cen-ter in American Fork. Stan was born to Ernest Afton and Leona Long Giles, on June 29, 1922, in Lehi. He married Lela Erickson, June 18, 1947, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Church serving for many years in the Primary. She was a Sunday School teacher and served in both ward and stake Relief Society's. Soci-ety's. She and her husband served a fruitful proselyting mission in Indiana and Ohio and later as Stake Missionaries. She loved serving in the Provo Temple for many years. Her loving caring presence pres-ence will be sorely missed by her large family and her many friends. She is survived sur-vived by her husband, six daughters Cynthia (Rudy) Poecker, Lindon; Connie (Gordon) Rammell, Magna; Catherine (Lance) Zobell, Fountain Green; Caryn (Don) Adams, West Valley; Collette, Gunnison; Char-lene Char-lene (Steve) Hales, Fountain Foun-tain Green, and a son John Hall, Clinton; 22 grandchildren grandchil-dren and 13 great grandchildren grand-children and sister Virginia (Grant) Fowles, Pleasant Grove. Interment was in the Lehi City Cemetery with military mili-tary honors by the VFW. you can't afford nol to hear" Dr. Daniel Miley Smith 4291917- 11292003 Daniel Miley Smith, age 86, of Salt Lake City, UT, passed away on Saturday November 29, 2003, in Salt Lake City following a brief illness. Dan was born in Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove, Utah, on April 29, 1917, the third of five children of S. Burton and Larue Smith. He attended schools in Pleasant Grove and graduated from the University of Utah in 1939. He married R. Bernice Nelsen in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 26, 1938. He and Bernice recently celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he held many positions including; Bishop of the Mt. Rose Second Sec-ond Ward of the Reno, Nevada Stake. He was employed for three years by the Utah State Tax Commission and for twenty-nine years by the Internal Revenue Service in Utah and also in Nevada, where he was Chief of the Intelligence Division. He was later an agent for the Equitable Life Assurance Society. He was active in many service organizations including the Lions Club and the Salt Lake Exchange Club. He was a member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers and the National Association of Retired Federal Fed-eral Employees when he died. He is survived by his wife, R.
