He addressed the upcoming upcom-ing $200 million bond election, elec-tion, scheduled for May 8, that Alpine School District is planning to help finance construction and remodeling remodel-ing projects to meet needs of the children. ' "We currently house 20 percent of our students in portable units," said Henshaw. "Our goal is to not increase that." "We feel like we will be able to spread these new schools as they open up," he said. "It costs $400,000 to $500,000 to open an elementary ele-mentary school and $1 million mil-lion to open a junior high." When asked what the district would do if the bond does not pass, Henshaw said there was a plan. The Board of Education doesn't have the intent to go back out to the voters in the next year or two," he said. "We would have to readjust. They would look at busing students, although that probably wouldn't be the first option. There would probably be double sessions. "If it isn't successful, they certainly respect the public," pub-lic," he added. "We are here to educate people and show them what we will do to provide for their children.
