Show Now Utahl -Wednesday, February 21,2001 - Page 16 Glafhar steps down as chair By Harlow Clark The Central Utah Center for Independent Living (CUCIL), which will provide services for handicapped people in Wasatch, Juab, Sanpete and Utah coiinties, is opening in the next few months and has elected a new chair. At a recent board meeting held at Interwest Medical's offices in Lindon, Eileen Glathar discussed the search for a site, then stepped down as chair so she could fill the VISTA volunteer position with the Center. She explained that as chair she could not nominate a new chair, but she recommended recom-mended Paul Jensen, a sales rep with Interwest. Michelle Hornby nominated him, and the board discussed conflicts of interest at length. Daniel Campbell, an outreach out-reach specialist for the Redrock Center for Independence in St. George, held up the vote a couple of times. He was not opposed to the nomination but wanted to be sure everything was done properly. At one point he said that if CUCIL buys any supplies from Interwest, they need to buy from another anoth-er salesman. "No offense to you, Paul." Bill Fullmer, a sales rep for Peterson Medical Supply said that both he and Jensen got into the medical supply sales field because they have a passion for helping people and he felt that passion UTA means you can only ride the Flextrans half the time," Costley said. "Going into work half the time doesn't work, and going for your medical treatments half the time doesn't work." Costley says he was pleased with UTA's response to another transit issue, which was reducing service to the north end because of low ridership a year or so back. The cutbacks cut-backs would have affected the people at the Developmental Center so Costley worked with UTA and local residents on "redi-rectfing "redi-rectfing some times and some routes so that each bus was a little fuller, and Notice is issued to wafer The State Engineer received the following Application(s) to Change Water in Utah County (Locations in SLB&M). Glathar said the chair's ability to propose and make recommendations but not to make motions or nominate checks and balances the chair's power. Jensen quipped, "If you're relinquishing your chair, do I get your chair?" referring to Glathar's motorized wheelchair. wheel-chair. Preston says she started thinking, "This is a hearing, but I'm not hearing anything from their side," so she asked how UTA could justify doubling the fare, and was told it was legal.
