American Fork's junior Shaelynn Hall helped the Cavemen start off the game with a lead over the Knights. American Fork played well throughout the third quarter and they had a lot of steals to help stay with the Knights. Emily Willard, Julie Paxman, and Emillie Toone were 100 percent at the freethrow line, which helped American Fork stay in the game. In the final period, the Cavemen kept switching up their players to keep fresh people in the game to help them against the Knights and fought until the final buzzer sounded. After this unfortunate beginning, the Cavemen were never able to recover and regain a lead. Still, despite their shooting woes in the quarter, the Cavemen were only down by 10 points at 6-16. In the second quarter the Knights added six more quick points to their lead before American Fork scored again. At the end of the first half the Knights had built a substantial lead of sixteen points at 33-17. Coming out of the locker room, the Cavemen had much more energy than in the first half, as they always do. In this quarter the Cavemen played much better bet-ter defense and were able to at least slow down the Knights. American Fork's players seemed to calm down from the early butterflies, and began to Jbe much more comfortable shooting and playing the game, especially some of their young players such as Zach Adamson. The Cavemen managed to break a little better than even in scoring against Lone Peak in the third quarter by allowing only 11 points while putting up 12 themselves in that quarter. The fourth period was by far the best for the Cavemen. The points came much easier for them and Lone Peak's crowd was silenced a little. The team showed a lot of heart and kept on trying despite their dismal circumstances. American Fork managed to outscore Lone Peak in this quarter 22-17. Minus the first half, the Cavemen would have won 34-28. It's is just too bad they could not get off to a good start, which is what they really needed against a team like Lone Peak. The American Fork crowd also was not into the game as they usually are, partially because many of them got dismissed from the arena for unsportsmanlike unsportsman-like conduct. ' Matt Hammer was held to 13 points and a single trey. Adamson also had on3 three pointer, and added 13 more points to Americai Fork's total.
