Schools will adopt extended day schedule Legacy Elementary in American Fork, and Sego Lily and Eaglecrest Elementary Schools, both in Lehi, will switch to an extended-day schedule when school begins for the 2001-2002 school year. The change from the traditional tra-ditional year was made to increase the capacity of the buildings to help alleviate crowded conditions at the schools and was unanimously unani-mously approved by the five-members of the Alpine School District board of education at their Feb. 13 business meeting held at district headquarters in American Fork. Under the schedule, the students are split into two groups that begin and end at different times. Half of the day is spent in a core class learning basics like reading and math, while the remainder of the day is spent in specialty classes such as computers, science and art. Jack Reid, 'assistant superintendent, K-6 north, told board members he. had met with administrators, teachers and patrons in the school involved to explain the extended-day program and talk with them about concerns about the programs. pro-grams. : "I received an interesting response from people," Reid said. Most of the concerns expressed dealt with change. Without-going to the productivity pro-ductivity model, it would mean purchasing five portable units at $80,000 a piece. "Five times $80,000 is an immediate savings," he said. "Saving $400,000 is a lot of money," board member Marilyn Koffprd agreed. In other business, the board started the necessary process to re-issue $35 million mil-lion an bonds at a lower interest rate. The action, said Keith Bradford, district business administrator, is similar to refinancing a home at a lower interest rate, and is expected to save the school district more than $600,000 in interest. The public will have 30 days to comment on the action prior to its being finalized. Highland Stake invites public to Family History Fair The 4th annual Highland LDS Stake Family. History Fair will be Friday, Feb 23, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday, Feb: 24, from 9 a.m. to 2 . p.m. at the Highland Stake Center, 9600 North 6800 West. Thirty-five classes are being offered. A PAF 4 hands-on computer training class at the beginning and intermediate level will be offered throughout the entire fair. Faculty members mem-bers include professional genealogists Karen Clifford, Kip Sperry, Jill Crandell, Mary Hill, Dale Goodwin, Leland Moon, and others. A new vendor coming to the fair this year is BYU Molecular Genealogy Rearch. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: PROVO, UTAH Brent Brown and Craig Christensen, owners '. of Brent Brown Toyota, Christensen Dodge, and Christensen ChevroletBuick, plan to hold a one-day sales event on Saturday, February 24, at The University Auto Mall, located 2 blocks west of Cougar Stadium. Brown and Christensen state that due to enormous increases in vehicle sales this year, they find the dealerships critically overstocked with used vehicle trade-ins. "Quite frankly, we've never seen anything like these last few months. We're In a position where we have to liquidate these vehicles in a hurry to bring our Inventories back In line." Brown continues, "We're going to hold this unusual J99 Sales Event, where every used vehi-" will be drastically reduced, some at only $99! u To move these vehicles, we'll be pricing used cars that could sell for six to nine thousand dollars dol-lars at the four to six thousand dollar range." This event promises to be exciting. "If you've never seen this type of disposal before, make sure you arrive early." says Brown and . Christensen. To simplify the sale, we'll pre-mark every used vehicle. The sale lot at 1995 No. University Parkway in Provo, will be open for preview at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. All vehicles will be open for inspection at that time. At precisely 10 a.m., the slasher will begin slashing prices to the lowest possible price. Whoever is sitting behind the wheel of any used vehicle will be given the first opportunity to purchase the vehicle at the posted sale price In the windshield. No haggle, no hassles. Used car ' buyers will be available to bid on trade-Ins during dur-ing the sale hours of 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Lenders will be there to arrange lowcost financing for virtually every level of credit histo- ry. Christensen states, "Please be advised this Is a one day only sales event. Because of the size of the discounts being offered, when our Inventories Invento-ries have been reduced to the desired level, the sales tags will be removed and all vehicles will return to normal pricing." , "This inventory situation has been very difficult diffi-cult on us, but it will certainly be an opportunity opportuni-ty for the consumers who participate. We'd rather give our local customers the chance to purchase the vehicles than to send them to the wholesale auctions In Salt Lake," says Brown.
