Seen here with star Lorenzo Lamas are, left to right, Christy Neal, Julie Graves, Julie White. Heidi Preston, Lorenzo Lamas, Cindy Chipman, Leesa Gleave, and Karen Frankenberry. Miss Neal also has a part in the movie and is listed among cast members. IrilKUUW JHUVi Local People, Scenes you seen the "Takedown" Have movie, yet? Many area residents are seeing it twice-at least. The first time they find themselves so busy identifying familiar places and residents, they forget to follow the story line. Much of the movie was filmed at the old American Fork Junior High School-and scenes cf classrooms, the boys gymnasium, the hallway with its nararow stairs, all bring back memories for former students and staff members of the school both when a junior high school and when it served as the American Fork High School. The boiler room of the school plays an important im-portant part in the film as the wrestling teams workout room, and while it isn't as familiar, it is still a part of the facility. "I always thought that was beautiful," is a comment heard of movie goers as they see winter scenes of white covered shrubs and trees along school walks and entrance en-trance ways on the screen. The football fie'd and track with neigh- Mi K : 4 - u v 4 y.,i ,. ,.r.ii .IfcjMMl jUtt'.Si boring homes in the background is part of the movie. Others recognize scenes filmed in Orem near U.S. Steel's Geneva Works and a home and field in that area. And there's always the comment, "There's!" as known faces flash on the screen. Many area youngsters formed the fans seen in bleachers at the various games of football and wrestling. Local and Salt Lake school cheerleaders led the yells; and cast members include Gary Peterson of Lehi, a former Brigham Young University football player; Larry Miller, current BYU football team member; and Boyd Silversmith, then an American Fork High School student. The American Film Consoritum, Inc., film, was produced and directed by yet another Utahn -award winning Keith Merrill. Mr. Merrill is remembered for his Oscar winning "The Great American Cowboy." , "Takedown" was filmed last winter under the title, "The Wedge." Ed Herrman, known for his television portrayal por-trayal of FDR in "Eleanor and Franklin," and "Eleanor and Franklin, the White House Years" is cast in the lead role as Edward Branish, who is begrudgingly teaching remedial English at Mingo Junction High. He dislikes Mingo Junction; he hates sports. He loves Shakespear and his wife, Jill, played by Kathleen Lloyd. Jill loves sports and wants to raise children in Mingo Junction. Branish finds himself as coach of the wrestling team. The reluctant love affair which develops between Branish and his rag-tag team is punctuated punc-tuated by humor, jvarmth and some of the most dramatic wrestling action ever filmed. The sweat and tension of young athletes as they strain to achieve their one symbol of success in an otherwise barren life is caught in camera artistry. Other film leads include in-clude Maureen Mc-Cormick Mc-Cormick ("The Brady Bunch"), who plays Brooke, the girl in Nick's life; and Lorenzo Lamas, son of actor Fernando Lamas. Lamas, playing Nick, is one athlete who can key the victory for Mingo Junction. He failed to make the football team because of failing English but Branish asks him to fill the vacant 185 lb. spot on the wrestling team. He agrees, but only after much consideration con-sideration and despite having to work out problems at home. Steven Furst, who plays in "Animal House," is the tuba player in the film-and has to wrestle at 185 lbs. if "Nick" doesn't agree. His emotions at this can only be seen to be described. Seeing the attitude of everyone from coach to team members to fans change has been described as an upbeat experience. Utahns in the film include Oscar Rowland, Hyde Clayton, Ailene Dalton, Kip Otanez, Ron Bartholome, Salvador Feliciano, Tony Smith, Elizabeth Grand, Christy Neal, Bob Kawa, and Melvyn Pegues, all of Salt Lake. Also appearing are Lynn Baird, Mapleton; Scott Burgi, Fred Carl Rowland, Lucille Thorne of Orem; Darrell Peterson, Pleasant Grove; Ron Tree, Heber. And extras including last years' American Fork High School cheerleaders. Music for the film was arranged by Merrill B. Johnson of Provo. Reed Smoot of Provo was director of photography.
