Show ' j ' Tut ' .iJ II r (Jl ' BROWS 0 With Tom Griffiths- Did you know there is a suggestion box at the White House where you can send your suggestions for improving our economy? If you have a suggestion send it to this address: ad-dress: "National Suggestion Box, Box 2009, Washington, D. C. 20013." What becomes of the suggestions after they are sent in is anybody's guess, but it is worth a try. For example, thy this one on for size. The Bureau of the Census was organized to take a census every ten years. This would show the increase in population and was legal and proper. The census was then reduced to five years and one couldn't complain too much about that. But now look what has happened to this bureau. Every month a survey of some sort is conducted. The one for the month of May is a dandy. This is the information in-formation they are seeking: "How many American workers are holding more than one job? How many are working overtime and what is their overtime pay? What are workers usual hours on their jobs?" Households in our area are part of the sample of 70,000 across the country. What in the name of heaven can this bureau do with information in-formation after they get it? The sad part is the cost involved. in-volved. Can you imagine what it would cost for nterviewers to call on 70,000 homes to get this information. Anyway, the information is of a personal nature and should not be in the possession of the government. This reflects the growth of government bureaus, and how they can affect our lives. It will be interesting to see what happens when I send in my suggestion to reduce the activities of this bureau to what it was originally meant to be. I could also suggest a survey be conducted to see how many men and women go fishing and what the effect will be on home and community life. Signs advertising Night Crawlers are making their appearance in our area. The lowly night crawler that once sold for five cents a dozen has now become an aristocrat and is selling for thirty cents or more a dozen. Be careful you worm merchants, mer-chants, the IRS. has an eye on you and may move in at any time and ask to check your profits. Some years ago an old maid aunt of mine from California was shocked when she visited our area and saw signs advertising ad-vertising night crawlers. She thought they were wicked women. What effect does the fisherman, excuse me, the fisherperson have on home and community life? It varies of course with families. Some families have expensive equipment such as campers or mobile homes that must be used. So groceries are transferred tran-sferred from the home lader or the two year storage, and heck, let tomorrow take care of itself. it-self. A businessman friend of mine recently voiced his concern about business the weekend of the opening of the fishing season. He thought that business might drop off. I assured him that business would be good. The grocery business would experience a boom. Fisherpeople who would normally have a bowl of mush for breakfast must now have bacon, sausage and eggs. There must be steak for supper and fat sandwiches for lunch. Now, there are non-fishing wives who are actually naughty about their husbands going fishing and take advantage ad-vantage of the opportunity to do a bit of shopping on their own. Last year on opening day I happened to be in one of our stores that specialize in women's apparel when I overheard a woman say to her daughter, "He spent all of our grocery money this week, so I am spending it for the next week." She walked out of the store with a bag full of goodies. Ah, but there are moments never to be forgotten while out fishing. Last year for example I went fishing with my good friend Carl Young out to Soldier Creek Reservoir. Fishing was good and we had a nice limit hanging from a stringer on the side of the beat. It came time to cieaii mem su for some reason that must be classified as stupid I unhooked the stringer from the boat and proceeded to clean a fish. When I looked for the second fish to clean to my humiliation the rest of them, stringer and all. had gone to the bottom of the lake. The red on my face was not from sunburn. Well, old fisherman never die, they just smell that way. Multiple sclerosis is a disease dis-ease that attacks the myelin sheathing of the central nervous ner-vous system, destroying it in patches which are replaced by scar tissue. The scar tissue interrupts and distorts the flow of nerve impulses, frequently causing paralysis, numbness, vision and speech difficulties, loss of coordination coordina-tion and other problems.
