Show n till ii, n n Utah Safety Council Suggests Gift of Safety AMERICAN FORK CITIZEN WEDNESDAY. Dec. 22, 1978 3 Shopping Days Left r?r HirSS66 tftfifh U II We have just finished the last of the ward conferences held during the year 1976 in the ten wards of American Fork Stake. We have been impressed im-pressed with the faithfulness of the members of our wards and stake. In every ward we have noted the devotion of the Bishopric and officers of the Ward and the willingness on the part of the ward members to support those who have been called to lead and direct the work. We are happy to see our new stake center taking form. Thanks to each of you who have opened up your hearts and pocketbooks to this worthy building fund project. This is truly a giving of ourselves our-selves when we give of that which we have produced. The Lord will bless you for your efforts as he has promised. We have just enjoyed a spiritual spiri-tual feast in our recent Stake Quarterly Conference with Elder Boyd K. Packer of the Council of the Twelve as our visitor. He admonished us to all search the scriptures, to read them daily and to discuss them in our families. The only way we can really get to know our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ; is to study !fUf!! 1; ! -ii :'itUS';n m ? wmh 1 i'SH LEADERS OF AM. May we all heed his warning, and make a new year's resolution resolu-tion now that during 1977 we will search the scriptures, both individually and as families fami-lies together. Let's adopt some sort of systematic daily study of them. At this season of the year, our thoughts turn to the birth of the Savior and His great mission upon the earth. His great message was to Love one another and to give service ser-vice to one another. As gifts were brought to Him by those who heralded His birth, so we today give gifts to those we love. We sometimes forget that "The gift without the giver is bare." Our greatest gift is the gift of one's self and this can only be done through service to one another. Why don't we make it our goal during 1977 that every week we lmli ti Continued do something good for someone. Then we will experience exper-ience in our lives what Jesus termed "Heavenly Joy." We as your Stake Presidency Presi-dency extend a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous and happy new year. May your activity during the new year bring even more spirituality into your lives and a closer relationship with your Heavenly Heaven-ly Father. Young Executive Secretary Probably the most exciting season of the year is the period commencing with Thanksgiving Thanksgiv-ing and ending with the arrival of a Happy New Year. For our children, especially around Christmastime, it is a period of fun and unparalleled joy. The holiday season for adults means shopping, planning, baking, gatherings of family and friends, tree trimming, wrapping up packages, and a constant set of busy and frantic fran-tic preparations. Whatever the holiday, whether it be a national holiday holi-day or a holy day, all have similarities that can make them the scene of a tragic accident. The Utah Safety Council warns accidents are too frequent visitors to our homes during the holiday season-accidents never take a holiday. This year why don't you give your family a gift of safety for the holidays? We are not talking talk-ing about a material gift, but the Council suggests providing your family with a safe holiday holi-day season. Nothing can be of greater value or importance to family members than a hazard-free home in which everyone can really enjoy themselves. Careful planning in advance can do so much to eliminate hazards in and around ar-ound the house. It will also allow you a little more time for those extra jobs so that fatigue won't set you up for a tragic mishap. Some special precautions should be taken ahead of time since everyone is less likely to be safety conscious when there are many activities going on in the home and on the premises. Hot tips for entertaining For a holiday buffet, you 11 want a way to keep your hot dishes just that way. Electric hot trays are the number one choice because be-cause they are usually made to keep foods warm, without with-out drying them up. Small electric cooking appliances are great too. You can cook a dish in one and when ready to set out on the table, you can turn the setting down to "warm " It will hold at serving temperature temper-ature nicely that way. There are many attractive attrac-tive tabletop warmers that use canned fuels . . . alcohol burners, butane gas burner, or candles. Be sure to read the instructions carefully, as a safety precaution.
