"Pops" Concert The State Industrial Education Spring Convention and Contest will be held at the Lehi High School tomorrow (Friday) ..J Saturday, May 7 and 8, it was reported by Horace K. Walker, Association President. The State Contest, which is expected to attract 1200 entries from throughout the state, will be open to the public from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday. Everyone Every-one is invited to come and view the exhibits entered by students from elementary schools through high schools. There will be no charge. The convention will begin with registration Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. At 7 p.m. a UIEA Banquet Ban-quet will be held in the Cafeteria Cafe-teria at the Lehi High School. Keynote speaker will be Dr. Ross J. MacArihur of Brigham Young University. Dr. MacArthur has recently been nationally honored for his technology program at BYU. His subject will be "How Industrial Arts can encourage technical education in the secondary secon-dary schools." Saturday events will begin with a breakfast for delegates and their wives at 7:30 a.m. at the school. A luncheon will be served at 11:00 a.m. In connection with the Convention Conven-tion the Ladies Auxiliary, under the direction of Mrs. Vena D. Walker, will hold their conven tion. They will enjoy a workshop and demonstration by Zlms on Saturday morning and then join their husbands for meetings in the afternnon. Judges for the state contest will include retired Industrial Arts teachers, specialists from industry and graduate students from the State training institutions. institu-tions. Featured will be the Concert Band and the Stage Band. The two bands playing on the concert are doing exceptional work. The Concert Band received a "Superior" rating at the District Dis-trict Music Festival Last month. It was also the recipient of the "Citizenship" award. Both of these honors have been earned for two consecutive years. The Stage Band is a new organization or-ganization this year and received a "Superior" rating at the District Dis-trict Festival in February. Since then, the band has been augmented by eighth graders in order to prepare pre-pare them for next year's band. Rodney E. Harris, the director, said that he would like to see a continuing stage band program. "The eighth graders are gaining good experience, which means that we won't have to start over next year," he said. Ths Concert Thursday is oneway one-way of saying "Thank you" for all of the support given the Junior High Bands this year. The students stu-dents and the director appreciate it very much. Last fall the students stu-dents sold magazine subscriptions subscrip-tions and raised enough money to buy a bass clarinet. With approximately 4 000 candy bars to sell, the public needn't be afraid ihere won't be enough candy to go a-round. a-round. The band students earnestly earn-estly solicit vour purchases for a worthwhile cause. The highlight high-light of the campaign will be the free Band Concert. Everyone is invited. Let's show our appreciation for the students by filling the gym.
