Property Tax in AiiiCLti Fork Shsws D:cre3$s The total property tax rate In American Fork decreased by 0.40 mills this year, according to an analysis prepared by Utah Foundation, Foun-dation, the private research organization. or-ganization. - American Fork' s total property prop-erty tax levy in 1969 was 81.85 mills ($81.85 per $1,000 asses-sesed asses-sesed valuation). This compares with a total levy of 82,25 mills in 1968 and 82.14 mills in 1965. According to the study the pr operty op-erty tax rate in American Fork has risen 10 per cent since 1960, 55 per cent since 1950 and 74 per cent since 1940. The following shows the total tax rate in American Fork during a number of selected years: 1940, 47.11 mill levy; 1950, 52.85 mill levy; 1960, 74.24 miU levy; 1965, 82.14 mill levy; 1968, 82.25 mill levy; 1969, 81.85 mill levy. Approximately 67 per cent of the property taxes charged in American Fork this year will go for schoolpurposes. The Founda tion's report shows that 22 per cent of the property tax will be for municipal purposes, nine per cent tor county purposes, and three per cent for special district property tax levy in American Fork Is shown by the following; Municipal, 17.70 mill levy; School, 54.45 mill levy; County, 7.20 mill levy; Special District, 2.50 mill levy; Total, 81.85 mill levy, includes state school levy of 7.2 mills. The Utah Foundation report points out that the total property tax levy in the 63 largest municipalities munici-palities in Utah averaged 87.46 mills ($87.46 per $1,000 assessed asses-sed valuation). This compares with 86.64 mills for 1968, 85.90 mills for 1965, and 73.65 mills for 1960. Among the 63 municipalities included in the Foundation survey, sur-vey, totalproperty tax levies rose in 41 cities and declined in 22 communities. The avearge rise in the cities reporting an increase was 1 51 mills, with the average reduction in cities with declines being 0.4? mills. Largest overall increases were recorded by Pro-vo Pro-vo 5.41 mills and Nephi 5.20 mills. Largest declines for the year were posted in Kaysville 1.40 mills andHeber 1.04 mills. Foundation analysts emphasize that in addition to mill levy increases, in-creases, taxpayers in some communities com-munities also will experience higher taxes this year as a result re-sult of upward adjustments in property valuations. Preliminary figures indicate that total assessments as-sessments in Utah rose by $77 million, or 4.65 per cent in 1969. Part of this increase results re-sults from new properties added add-ed to the tax rolls, but psrt Is a reflection of the adjustments made under the property equalization equaliz-ation program. The report points out that Park City again retained the dubious distinction of having the highest high-est property tax rate with a total levy of 108.72 mills. It was followed closely by Ogden with an overall levy of 107.58 mills. A majority ma-jority of the hunting area is contained within private lands owned by the Strawberry Water-Users Water-Users Association. They have agreed this year, as they did last year, to leave their land open to hunting by the public, providing pro-viding that hunters keep their motor mo-tor vehicles (Including two- the lowest tax rate among Utah cities with a total l-vy of 67.45 mills THE AMERICAN FORK CITIZEN, THURSDAY, SEPT. 25, 1969 wheel vehicles) on existing roads and that they avoid disturbing livestock still remaining in the area whenever possible. Driving vehicles indescrlminately through the area leads to severe erosion of soil in vehicle tracks and also unnecessarily disturbs livestock. The "Water-users" indicated that if any serious problems prob-lems develop, they will close their landtohunting immediately. A good population of sage grouse is again present thisye:T in Strawberry Valley and a good hunt is expected, however cooperation coop-eration from the hunter is required re-quired to make it a successful NEW SUBSCRIBERS The following are new subscribers sub-scribers to the Am.
