The Utah County Republican Nominating Convention will be held June 29, 1968 at 7:00 p.m. In the Provo High School auditorium. audi-torium. Congressman Laurence J. Burton will be the keynote speaker. Senator Wallace F.Bennett F.Ben-nett and most of the state and county candidates will also be in attendance. State chairman Richard Rich-ard Richards will introduce the keynote speaker and participate in the convention. All interested Utah County Republicans, Re-publicans, even though they may not be convention delegates are welcome to attend. A number of the major candidates will speak briefly at the convention and an informal reception will be held following the convention, where candidates will be available to get acquainted with those in attendance. at-tendance. Convention delegates from Legislative Districts 38, 41 and 42 will have an opportunity to vote on candidates for the State Legislature from those districts. The incumbents and their chal lengers are: Dist. 38 (N. Orem, PL Grove, Alpine, and Highland) Harley M. Gillman, incumbent; James N. Gilson, Republican opponent. Dist. 41 (Central Provo) Fred F. Sumsion, incumbent; H. Ver-land Ver-land Anderson, Republican opponent, op-ponent, Dist. 42 (South Provo) Dean C. Christensen, incumbent; J. Allen Keith, Republican opponent. The state election laws provide pro-vide that if a candidate gets 80 per cent of the delegate vote at the convention, he automatically becomes the party candidate in the November election - otherwise other-wise the contest will be determined determin-ed at the Primary election in September. Mortenson of American Fork was elected President of the Utah Lions Past District Governors organization, during the recent Lions State Convention !n Logan. Intermezzo Club Hold Summer Party The annual summer party of the Intermezzo Club was held Monday, June 24, at the home of JaNae Nichols. A lovely patio pa-tio dinner was served to members mem-bers and their husbands. Hostesses Host-esses were Betsy Wagner and Shirley Miller. Receives Top Award The Alpine Soil Conservation District, Lehi, Utah has been named Utah's first place winning win-ning District In the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company's annual an-nual Soil Conservation Awards Program. Selection was made by state agricultural conservation authorities, according to Dave Williams, local representative of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Leo P. Harvey of Alpine Soil Conservation District and also President of Utah State Association Associ-ation of Soil Conservation Districts Dis-tricts announced that Nyal F. Wadley of Pleasant Grove was selected as the Districts Outstanding Out-standing farmer-cooperator. Nyal and John Y. Swenson, Sup- George S. Cannon, Husband of Former A. F. Resident, Dies Funeral services were held recently for George S. Cannon, of Provo, husband of Mrs. Norma Vance Cannon, a former resident of American Fork In the Edge-mont Edge-mont Third Ward LDS Chapel. He was born August 9, 1918 in Washington, Washington County, Coun-ty, Utah a son of George Q. and Josephine Prisbrey Cannon. He marriedNormaVance on August. Aug-ust. 19,! 1942 In the Salt Lake LDS Temple. A member of the LDS Church, Mr. Cannon had served as Elders El-ders Quorum president, superintendent super-intendent of the Sunday School, and had worked In scouting. He graduated from the BYU in 1942 and had been employed as park ranger in the Southern Utah parks for a time. For four years he served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific. Pa-cific. He had been employed at Geneva Gen-eva Steel Company from 1945 until Uie time of his death. He is survived by his widow, Provo; one daughter and four sons, Janine Cannon, D. Eldon Cannon, Michael George Cannon, Lynn Ashley Cannon and Eric Vance Cannon, all of Provo; his father, St. George; and one brother broth-er and four sisters.
