Ladies Literary Dr. Stewart Grow of Brigham Young University, Provo, was guest speaker at a meeting of the Ladles Literary Thursday afternoon,- April 3, at the home of Mrs. Robert L. Ashby. Mrs. Grant H. Ivlns was assistant hostess. Dr. Grow based his talk on world relations and used the map of the week "News Week" to demonstrate some of the problems of the Middle East which consists of the 'following countries: Iran, Afghanistan, Isreal, Russia, Iraq, Turkey, Syria, Sy-ria, Arabia and others, which cover an area of 4,152,000 square miles, one-third larger than the United States, and with a population pop-ulation of 190,500,000 people. He stated that one major factor fac-tor Is the drive for independence and another is the production of oil. Seventy-five percent of the known oil reserves of the world lie In the Middle East. A short discussion followed Dr. Grow's talk. Club president Mrs! J. O. Chilton Chil-ton presided, and announced that the spring convention of the Timpanogos First District of the Utah Federated Women's Clubs will be held Saturday, April 12, at the Forbes School. She also extended an Invitation to the Art Tea at Springville. Alan Anderon of the American Fork High School, rendered a saxophone solo, "Night and Day." He was accompanied by Miss Rose Ann Hansen. The collect was read by Mrs. Elmer Bate. There were 13 members and one guest present. Church Notices Temple Excursions Thursday, April 17, Is the next regular scheduled excursion to the. Salt Lake LDS Temple for Alpine Stake members. Community Dance To Honor Alpine Firemen Alpine's annual Firemen's Ball will be held Friday evening, April' 11 at the Alpine Gymnasium. Gymnas-ium. This is a community affair af-fair and everyone Is invited. The evening will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a volley ball game between the married men and the M Men. Dancing will be from 8:30 to 11:30 to the music of the Night Hawks Orchestra. There will be door prizes and a floor show will be presented during intermission.
