Much of the home received extensive heat and smoke damage. The Searles' were awakened about 4:30 a.m. when their whole house vacuum came on, said Ed Anderson, American Fork Volunteer Volun-teer Fire Department secretary. Investigating the cause, Mrs. Searle smelled smoke when she entered the kitchen. Searle inched the door to the adjacent garage open and found the structure in flame, Anderson said. The garage was engulfed and the blaze had begun to crawl up a wall into the family room when firemen arrived, Anderson said. Two vehicles in the garage were were completely destroyed by the heat. Two more were reported Monday. Mon-day. One was valued at $100. The second, a mountain bike, was valued val-ued at $400. A welder valued at $400 was reported stolen. The welder was under a tarp at the time it was taken. Police are investigating damage done by vandals to a loader. Windows Win-dows and gauges were broken, according ac-cording to a police spokesperson. Damage was shown as $500. Citations were given for alcohol violations and narcotics violation. Police are investigating a child abuse report. Alpine Highland Chief Dan Jones of the Alpine Highland police department said officers responded to a variety of theft and mischief calls in the past PoDOce Beeifc week. A shotgun was stolen from a locked maintenance shed at the Alpine Al-pine Country Club. The thief broke a window and took the gun. The victim listed losses at $3,000. About $900 worth of saddles, bridles and harnesses were stolen from a tack shed in Highland during dur-ing an approximately 30 minutes span while the owners were away. This was allegedly used by the suspects to enter the high school about 5 p.m. The youths reportedly left when a janitor spotted them. About midnight that night, they reportedly went back into the high school, bringing a piece of ribar with them which was used to break into the lockers. An estimated $1,200 damage was caused.
