MURDOCH Saturday May, 29 will mark the unveiling of the old Alpine School Monument in Alpine on the grounds where the old school once stood. The area now belongs to the Kencraft candy company. City Councilman Robert Smith, also chairman of the monumentcom-mittee, monumentcom-mittee, said the event will begin with a program in the old red LDS church, located at 165 N. 100 East at 11 a.m. Directly after that, the monument monu-ment will be unveiled and dedicated on the Kencraft grounds at 1 19 East 200 North in Alpine. The program at the church will include a song by students of the current Alpine Elementary School, said Smith, as well as some brief reminiscence by former students who attended the old school. There will also be a tribute to the important role which the old building build-ing and ground has played in the community. Lyle Nash Grant, who attended the old school in one of the first classes of 1899 will be honored. The one hundred-year-old Mrs. Grant will share a few personal memories of the school and happenings happen-ings there. All former students, faculty, staff Memorial Day services planned Memorial Day services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on May 31 at the Veterans Memorial in American Fork City cemetery. Featured speaker will be Col. Susan Fleming, a colonel in the Utah National Guard. The Reverend James R. Belt of the Presbyterian Church will offer the invocation. Smith thanked all those who contributed con-tributed to fund raising, planning, construction and dedication of this significant Alpine landmark. This dedication ceremony represents repre-sents the culmination of over a year of work on the part of many dedicated dedi-cated individuals. The committee solicited donations dona-tions to help pay for the casting of a sculpture of the old school and plaques naming students and staff. The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Pio-neers donated one of the plaques, and many other people donated money. "It was real rewarding to see the response," said Smith. "We got enough to do the monument and the plaques, to mail the invitations and print up the booklets."
