Local residents due tax refund checks IRS says The Internal Revenue Service is trying to locate some Utah residents who are due a tax refund from their 1982 and previous year Federal Income Tax Returns. According to Carol M. Fay, IRS Salt Lake City District Director, more than 500 refund checks worth $132,193 were returned by the Postal Service as undeliverable in Utah. The refund checks are for individuals in-dividuals only. Director Fay says the taxpayers may have moved or changed their last names during the year and failed to notify the IRS, or the handwriting may be illegible. When a refund is returned by the Postal Service, the IRS attempts to find the taxpayer and deliver the checks, but there are always some who cannot be found. If you think you may be due a refund and have moved or changed your name during the year, contact the IRS at 5244060 if in the Salt Lake City telephone dialing area, or toll-free 1-800424-1040.
