Com Dance team takes second The UVSC Ballroom Dance Company placed second at the United States Formation Team Championships Aug. 31 in Irvine, Ir-vine, Calif., as part of the four-day four-day Embassy Ball DanceSport Championships. Hundreds gathered in the standing-room-only ballroom for the final round of competition competi-tion as UVSC performed the Black Pearl Medley. The performance per-formance was that medley's last, as a new piece will be unveiled at the Winter Concert Nov. 29 to Dec. 3. "I felt as a team; it was one of the most intense performances perfor-mances we have ever given," said Scott Asbell, director of the ballroom dance program. "It was an appropriate retirement retire-ment to a wonderful medley." More than 25 countries were represented at the Embassy Ball, considered one of the most prominent ballroom competitions com-petitions in the United States. Jones's duties consisted of assisting the First Lady, translating, attending scheduled sched-uled meeting's and events and organizing and doing office work at Los Pinos. the official residence of Mexico's First Family and offices of Mexico's President and First Lady. The core issues the First Lady focuses on are adoption, immigration, and more specifically, specifi-cally, immigrant children. Jones first arrived in Mexico City at the beginning of July and was there until Aug. 22. Along with assisting the First Lady in Mexico City doing numerous duties. Jones had the opportunity to travel to Canada with Calderon as her personal assistant to the North American Summit Conference Con-ference in Ottawa, Canada, Aug. 18-21. "It was a wonderful experience," experi-ence," said Jones, commenting on the trip. "I learned so much working with her." It was such a great experience; experi-ence; in fact, next summer Jones is planning on returning to Mexico City to do her senior internship at Los Pinos and work with The First Lady once more as her assistant.
