Show Thursday, September 13, 2007 OREM TIMES Page 9 Obituaries James Dale Seely "Together Again" TBWj w .win, i James Dale Seely, 81, of Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove passed away Friday, September 7, 2007 at his home. He was born September 27, 1925 in Mt. Pleasant, UT, the second of seven children, to Ruel Hazard and Anna Eula Jorgensen Seely. He married Gloria Cleo Nelson on November 19, 1945 in the Manti LDS Temple. Gloria passed away on February 10, 2004. Dale attended schools in Mt. Pleasant and graduated from North Sanpete High School. He later graduated from Snow College Col-lege with a degree in business and received a degree in accounting from BYU. After graduating from BYU he worked at Geneva Steel for a number of years. He later earned his teacher's certification from BYU and taught school for 27 years at Grovecrest Elementary. Dale served as Scoutmaster for many years and loved the scouting scout-ing program. He served in many church callings during his life including several Bishoprics and Stake High Councils. He enjoyed riding horses, fishing, fish-ing, and working in his garden. HE SURVIVED REARING THREE CHILDREN: Nelson Dale (Patricia) Seely, Lewiston, UT; Lynn Ruel (Darlene) Seely, Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove, UT; Cheryl (Clyde) Morgan, Fountain Green, UT. Additional survivors include nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; siblings: Boyd (Betty) Seely, Cedar Hills, UT; Helen (J.H.) Harvey, Har-vey, American Fork, UT; Leone (Ross) Smith, Thatcher, ID. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Pleasant Grove Second Ward Chapel, 455 East 200 South, Pleasant Grove. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Thursday one hour prior to services. Utah County News www.heraldextra.com Mildred Pixton Bowers Hunter 1913-2007 Mildred Pixton Bowers Hunter (94), wonderful mother, grandmother, grand-mother, great- grandmother, raTO and aunt, passed away peacefully September 7, 2007 at home on the Deseret Cattle and Citrus Ranch, near Orlando Florida. Born February 2, 1913 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John David and Jane Pixton Bowers, Mildred was the fourth of six children. She pursued an education and graduated from Utah State Agricultural Agri-cultural College with a Bachelor's Degree, earned her Master's Degree from Columbia Teacher's College in New York City and her received her Ph.D. in Foods and Nutrition from Cornell University at Ithaca, New York. She married Albert S. Hunter in 1947 in Washington D.C. and their only child, Alice Jane, was born in 1952 while they both taught at Oregon State University. In 1957 they transferred to Pennsylvania State University at State College, Pennsylvania where they lived for the next 34 years. Upon retirement retire-ment from Perm State, they lived in Santa Maria, Brazil for four years where Al taught at the local university. As a faithful member of the LDS Church, Mildred served in many leadership capacities particularly par-ticularly with the young women and Relief Society auxiliaries. She continually served in the community, commu-nity, and especially enjoyed working work-ing with international student families, helping them make the transition to living in the United States. She has a great love of good music and had a beautiful alto voice. She sang with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and later with the State College Choral Society in Pennsylvania. She always looked for and found the good in others, and had a special way of making each person feel like they were the most important person in the world. She was a humble example of kindness, gentleness, and compassion, com-passion, and will be remembered for her goodness, her smile, and her motto, "Be of Good Cheer!" Mildred is survived by her daughter, Alice Jane (Jeff) Walker, Walk-er, her beloved seven grandchildren grandchil-dren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert, her siblings and parents. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, September 11 in Florida; Thursday, September 13 at the Battlecreek 7th Ward, 1106 E. 200 S., Pleasant Grove, Utah with family greeting from 6:00-7:00 6:00-7:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held in State College, Pennsylvania at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 21 at Centre County Memorial Park. Card of Thanks Bessie Downs Shelton Bud Shelton and his family and the friends of Bessie Downs Shelton Shel-ton would like to thank the Relief Societies of the American Fork 4th and 7th Wards for their acts of kindness at her passing and for the dinner provided after Bessie's funeral. The family also thanks the nurses and doctors in the ICU and the ER at the American Fork Hospital for the tenderness they showed her. Their love will never be forgotten. We are especially grateful to Dr. Von Welch and his staff for the hours of their caring and the love they expressed to Bessie and her family. Belva West Adams . Belva West Adams, 85 of Lehi, passed away on Sunday, September Septem-ber 9, 2007. of causes incident in-cident to age. She was born February 7, 1922 in Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove to Lester Gay and Margaret Foutz Walker West. She married Dar-rell Dar-rell Stephen Adams in Emmett, Idaho on April 12, 1943. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died July 12, 1961. She owned and operated Belva's Nursing I lome in Lehi for 20 years. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, served in many organizations including Young Womens, Relief Society Presidency, Presi-dency, and Special Interest Representative. Repre-sentative. She served a health mis-' mis-' sion to Peru from 1980-1982 and was a volunteer at the Genealogy Centers in Lehi and Salt Lake. She loved to paint, sew, crochet, play the accordion, and all crafts. Survived by 3 sons and 2 daughters, Richard (Darlene) Adams, Ad-ams, Lehi; Doug (Patsy) Adams, Orem; Ste phen (Marilyn) (Mari-lyn) Adams, Lehi; Jane (Eric) Chamberlain, Cham-berlain, Lehi; and Marian Mar-ian (Dennis) Beck, Lehi; 31 grandchildren; grandchil-dren; 55 great-grandchildren; sister. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 1 1:00 a.m. in the Lehi 5th Ward LDS Chapel, 465 E. 300 N. in Lehi. Shirley Birk Zenith Shirley Birk Zenith died in Alexandria, Virginia August 14, 2007 following hip surgery. She was born in American Fork to Louis Neldon Birk and Edna Moore Birk on December 31, 1929. She graduated from American Fork High Schxl in 1948 and married James E. Zenith in 1950. Her husband died in 2000. She is survived by her two sons, Robert of Tennessee and Richard of Lisbon, Portugal; her brothers Jack of Duluth, Minnesota, and Robert Alan of Belvedere, California; Califor-nia; an Aunt, Ruth Birk Deveraux of American Fork; nieces Kalhy Christ ensen of Midvale, Judith Kridle of Oakland, California, Peggy Peg-gy Birk and Marianne Kenfield of Maple, Minnesota and nephew Louis May of Hyrum, Utah. Shirley and family resided in in Alexandria, Virginia since 1958. She was a prominent leader in Alexandria Parks and Recreation Recre-ation projects and was awarded many honors for her volunteer work. She was a pioneer in planning plan-ning to preserve land as open space, resulting in the creation of Holmes Run Greenway and Cameron Run Park, which forms a continuous green space of more than 50 acres. In 1985 she was awarded Alexandria's Commission Commis-sion on the Status of Women for her contribution to preservation. preserva-tion. Worked on the city's Park Master Plan, served on the Park and Recreation Commission from 1984 - 1990; was a mem!er of the Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia, and served as the unofficial unof-ficial gardner of the Alexandria Hospital for years.
