Show Thursday, March 15, 2007 OREM TIMES Page 13 PoliceBea I SELECTED INCIDENTS Natalie Andrews DAILY HERALD A credit union robbery in Orem on Monday brought the tally of robberies in Utah Valley to five in the past two weeks. Police believe that four of them, including the one on Monday, are related. Orem police Lt. Doug Edwards Ed-wards said that at 12:48 p.m., a man walked into the Alpine Credit Union, 351 E. 800 South in Orem, and handed the teller a note indicating that it was a robbery and that he had a gun. "The note stated that the teller tell-er was to put all the money in her drawer into a plastic bag," Edwards said. Police said the teller handed the suspect the bag, putting cash and a dye pack inside. Cooking is like 'serving love Emily Marlowe Over many years of table talk and casual conversation I have found that everyone has their own way of doing things in the kitchen. I have often heard "I am not a cook, but I love to bake." Those of us that love to cook know that it is a creative art. It can be one of the most fulfilling fulfill-ing outlets many of us have. Cooking to most is serving love on a platter. Think back to when you were young and growing up in the kitchen. Your family members had their own style of cooking. I am sure you have picked up on some of those practices and even added a few of your own odd and peculiar pecu-liar cooking techniques. This is what makes us who we are in the kitchen. What makes a recipe appealing? ap-pealing? Was it the simplicity, the ingredients or the way it jogged your memory to Grandma's Grand-ma's kitchen? This is what makes us want to pass recipes and tips down from generation to generation. Recipes often become better with time. We learn more, we experiment more, and the technology tech-nology improves. But there are those recipes that are timeless. I am asking now for you to go back in time, back into your deepest memories and please share those recipes, stories and all of Grandma's tips with us. Let's go back to all the recipes we loved as children, to using simple ingredients, the ones we Peace of Mind with Let Us JrLyy Insure Your F ' yJrjr Automotive jjf? The suspect then walked through the parking lot and around the corner of a nearby building. The red dye then exploded from the pack, Edwards said, some spilling onto the ground. Witnesses saw a dark-colored SUV, either green or blue, leave the parking lot at a high-rate high-rate of speed, Edwards said. Police issued an attempt to locate alert and started the investigation. in-vestigation. At about 3:30 p.m., a janitor at Foothill Elementary School in Salem found the dye-pack with some colored money. Not all of the money was retrieved. Police believe the suspect is connected to three other bank robberies in Utah County. He's described as a white man a little over 6 feet tall in his late 20s to early 30s with a medium have on hand. Here are some simple tips for today's recipe ... and many others: Try buying C&H Baker's Sugar. It is the only sugar I use. It is light and fine, and makes mixing a breeze. It blends well, arid makes baked goods and whipped cream perfect. People often ask about the purpose for the need for baking bak-ing soda and baking powder. Well, remember this: if your recipe calls for soda, bake your goods quickly. The soda causes your baked goods to rise and starts working work-ing immediately. It is used mainly in cookies and things that take a shorter amount of time to cook. Baking powder helps to make your baked goods have a soft texture. This is because baking powder has cream of tarter included in it. Baking powder also helps things to rise slowly. This is why it is often included in cakes and biscuits. The cookie recipe below includes both so imagine the texture of this yummy cookie. If your recipe calls to pre-heat your oven do so! There is an initial "leap" that leavenings make when put into a hot oven. This is J CAB 4X4 $ 10,000 fffw usw (Sim OM.) hfmt prfus to, kmt I In i.Tii'.. . -"til, :.. EE imH iii build. The Central Bank in American Fork was robbed on March 2, Key Bank in Orem was robbed on March 5 and Chase Bank in Provo was robbed on March 8. In each of the pictures released re-leased by bank surveillance, the suspect is wearing the same outfit a white baseball cap, oversized sunglasses, a black leather jacket, a striped shirt and jeans. He also used the same process pro-cess to rob the banks. Edwards said that the suspect kept his hand in the pocket of his leather leath-er jacket, apparently so that the teller wouldn't know for sure if he had a gun or not. A fifth robbery, on March 6 in Payson, is unrelatecf to the others. Ricky Lee Brost, 27, of Santaquin turned himself in on a platter' called "Oven Spring." If your oven is not hot when you put the pans in, the mixture won't rise properly. I would love to take you back a bit and share a recipe loved by many, for generations. genera-tions. AGGRAVATE ROBBERY - A 55-year-old jewelry salesman from New Jersey had been in town for a couple of days and was just arriving back at the La-Quinta La-Quinta Inn at 521 W. University Parkway and was taking his bags from the trunk when someone told him to "Just leave the bags." He turned to see four Hispanic males in a dark blue or black four-door four-door car parked directly behind the victim's rental car. The order was repeated as the two back seat passengers, both males in their 30s, got out of the car and aggressively approached the victim. When they tried to take the bags the victim, he clutched them tighter and one of the suspects cut both of the victim's hands with a box cutter. They then got back into the car and started to North County Newspapers D AH r HI N Alt) tUIUlHlMt CO 69 W. He then proceeded to assault a 31 -year-old man inside the home before fleeing. The police were called and while taking the report, Holland called the victim's cell phone. An officer answered the call. Holland made further threats and said that "he and his boys were going to come back over and finish it." When the police officer identified identi-fied himself, Holland refused to turn himself in. Officers located Holland's car at his brothers apartment near UVSC and made contact with Holland inside.
