In fact, I likely know far less than I should about the things I want to talk about today. I want to talk about our school's history. I'm about as much of an 'old-timer' as they get in high school; Give it another four months and I'll be gone. And as such and old-timer, and having just watched "Big Fish," I'd like to share some of the tales I've picked up about the people at Timpanogos. I don't know much about past class gifts or anything about the old principals. But I do know some people history. And maybe it will help me ease this burning feeling of nostalgia that I can't seem to get away from. The biggest story I know is my own. Orchard Elementary Math Night Orchard's Math Night, an evening when families come to enjoy math activities throughout the school in an "open house" format, will Jan. 30 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. "Students teach parents and other guests how to do a math activity that targets a specific math skill at their grade level," said Paula Gordon, Gor-don, TSA. "Also, we have drawings at each grade level for those who answer other math problems. It's an enjoyable enjoy-able time to students to show what they've learned and is a great way to educate parents on the math program we use here at Orchard." I Science fair The science fair continues through today. Upper grade classes are judged on their projects, and winners go on to compete at the district level. I Parent conferences Parent Par-ent conferences are coming Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 7-8. A book fair will be held in the library at the same time as the conferences. guy that I am. A while back, I was an incredibly awkward and viciously fumbling guy. I've had to do the whole high school thing. I figure high school is, at its heart, a time for people to come to terms with themselves. And maybe I've started to really do that. I've been thinking a lot (a habit I haven't been able to beat). Most everybody you ever meet went through high school. And every one of those people had fears, girls that didn't like them and insecurities. inse-curities. But most everyone you meet is also a healthy, functioning adult. So as you look around at school today, try to imagine everyone around you growing grow-ing up, living a life, getting married. It's weird. Sooner or later, they've all got to grow up. They will be parents, farmers, and convenience-store convenience-store cashiers like the rest of the world. So I guess I got distracted. Whoops. I guess you'll have to hear the stories some other time. E-mail me: wyattfeltgmail. com Subscribe by calling 375-5103 i ENCHILADAS FAJITAS . SUPS REICH RES I ! I |
