Manufacturer of discreet women's fashions turning heads Michael Rigert I lipping tin exploding market in L'tiih County and increasingly across the nation, The Mot) Bod in Orem offers reasonably priced, high-quality modest clothing for women and girls. The Utah County-based company started by Troy Slade and CamiHe Peterson of Highland "saw a need for modesty-type clothing," said Daniel Thompson, The Mod Bod's chief ox'ratmg officer. I inding skimpy spaghetti strapped and mid-riff-baring tops a bit too revealing for personal per-sonal standards, females of all ages in Utah County recently began seeking out fashionable alternatives to what was being be-ing churned out at malls and boutiques. "It's really took off from there," Thompson said. While the two-year-old company com-pany attracted a large clientele initially through a home-party distribution network ala Avon cosmetics, it has since become a retail distributor of it's clothing cloth-ing in 18 fashion outlets from Salt Lake to St. George. It's flagship, The Mod Bod stores, are its Orem location and a combination boutique and warehouse in Pleasant Grove. Manufactured in Long Beach, Calif., The Mod Bod's primary designs emphasize a capsleeve-style capsleeve-style blouse with a high neck line, just over the shoulder on the sleeve and down past the waist. They also have coaserva-tively-cut tank tops, and a long-sleeve long-sleeve shirt that extends around the hands. "The trend is going with a longer type of shirt," Thompson Thomp-son said, adding that The Mod Bod patrons range in age from 8-year old girls all the way up to women in their 40s and 50s. Also available online at www.themodbod.com, the company's best sellers are a white capsleeve, followed by black and pink tops and its long sleeve hoodie. "They're very popular with high school crowd and pregnant preg-nant women because the shirts stretch," he said. Thompson said 65 percent of The Mod Bod's total sales are from its Internet site and that 30 percent of online buyers are from Utah County. High-end retailers such as Abercrombie & Fitch taken notice no-tice of the potential market for modest but attractive women's clothing and will start its own line in the fall, Thompson said. "It's been fantastic for The Mod Bod because it's the same shirt from Abercrombie & Fitch but better quality and it's cheaper," he said. Blouses and shirts range from $15 to $24. A new spring 2007 line of clothing from The Mod Bod will debut at the end of January.
