Happy new year, baby "I know they're starting start-ing a lot of construction off of 800 North, so they could set some time limits school system; sys-tem; don't want to forget about them." I Shanalee Manzano "I think they have a lot of sites taken care of. Maybe they should concentrate more on the Church. It's a huge ap peal to come out here. It seems like it's a really re-ally clean city with lots of family-oriented public places." I Steven Alder "That's tough. I know we're trying to really re-ally build up our arts and that should be a priority. I've heard rumors of a performing arts center and that would be wonderful. We really don't have a lot of arts opportunities in Utah County." I Sandra Smith "I've always al-ways felt that all the freeway entrances are all ugly. I think BYU is the Provo exit and it's all rock. 800 North and Center Street, they all look ugly. You don't feel it's an elegant el-egant city. Even Lindon has a nice exit." I Howard Lo "They've been busy with the roads, so that's good. I hate to think of them starting start-ing on 800 North, but it needs to be done ... because people drive so much." I Elaine Bonnett "There's so many projects, but I think they're doing do-ing a good job already and keeping keep-ing up with the demand. If they could speed up on the library ..." I Allan Roe "I know they're doing a lot with the roads. They should continue to get that wrapped up. Education Educa-tion is also something that always should continue to be a high priority." I Marci Lamoreaux "Helping "Help-ing disadvantaged disad-vantaged people more." Adam Robertson, president presi-dent and CEO of SCERA, announced Thursday that the Ray and Tye Noorda Foundation Founda-tion and SCERA partnered to purchase the two properties next to the theater, which is on State Street in Orem. "They donated the means to acquire that property," Robertson Robert-son said. Ray Noorda was a former CEO and chairman of Novell. He died in October, at the age of 82. The Noorda family also recently donated $1 million to the Orem Fitness Center for a remodeling project. Robertson said Noorda and his wife, Tye, enjoyed performances per-formances at the SCERA and have been longtime supporters support-ers of the theater; they have been major donors in the past. Robertson said negotiations for this donation have been in the process for the past three months. "We're just so grateful for their generosity and willingness willing-ness to help the arts continue to thrive in Orem," Robertson said. He declined to say how much the property is worth or disclose the value of the donation. dona-tion. This is the second large donation do-nation to SCERA this year. The large theater is now called the XanGo Grande Theatre. The properties purchased with the Noorda donation include in-clude a building now occupied by Allstate and the former Teleperformance building. Robertson said SCERA will continue to lease the building to Allstate, and change the other building into a costume and prop area. The change means the SCERA will have more available avail-able space in the theater building build-ing for little performers. "We have been running out of room for our youth theater, dance, choir and other educational educa-tional programs," Robertson said in a news release. Orem Mayor Jerry Washburn Wash-burn is excited about the donation dona-tion for the benefit it will have for the theater, city and the valley. "This really helps as SCERA is moving toward becoming the real premier cultural arts facility in our community, if not in the entire valley," he said. "As they continue with their plans to remodel and develop, this will be a very important im-portant addition." The theater operates as a nonprofit organization dedicated dedicat-ed to both youth job training in performance and development of culture and family entertainment. entertain-ment.
