Through a partnership with UVSC students, the Sharon Elementary students are learning learn-ing more than just concepts, they are actually putting them to work during their mock business fair Monday from 2:30-3:30 p.m., when they will market and sell products to test their recently acquired business skills. Kaimii Stone, coordinator of Sharon Elemen-tary's Elemen-tary's after school program, said she is pleased to be able to offer young students such unique opportunities. "(The business club) is one of the ones we wouldn't normally consider providing," she said. "But they learn a lot about what's effective and what's not." According to Stone, the collaboration col-laboration with UVSC came about when the college students stu-dents approached her about offering of-fering a four-week program to demonstrate business concepts to elementary students. Jenny Hoggan, a hospitality manage-' ment major and member of Delta Epsilon Chi and Phi Beta Lambda, is coordinating the "UVSC portion of the venture initiated by Phi Beta Lambda. "As college students, we're all business majors in some form or other," Hoggan said about the students involved with the project. During the first meeting between UVSC and Sharon Elementary students, Hoggan delegated different representatives representa-tives to teach the four T's" of marketing: price, promotion, product and placement. By giving giv-ing age-appropriate examples of each one and explaining its importance, the UVSC students introduced concepts to young students that many 'college students may struggle with. Hoggan admits that she did not know about the four Ps until her sophomore year of college, and she is happy to introduce the ideas to younger students. A guest to the school might expect pep talks, school history his-tory and lots of cheering. And this visitor would get quite the surprise. Students and faculty members audition for the spirit assemblies, rather like a talent show. Sa.yes.OK, students performing might increase school spirit, by making mak-ing the school aware of the talent within their school.
