Both Marv and Ruth were born in Bear Lake Valley, met and became sweethearts in high school. They were married on May 30, 1941. Soon after, they moved to San Diego while Marv served in the U.S Navy during World War II. Upon their return, they permanently moved to American Fork where they first resided at the Bates Apartments. As their family grew, they were lucky enough to not only rent but also learn to garden and love the canyons from Vel and Mary Mower. When their family needed more room, they bought their first house on Robinson Ave. In 1967, they moved to their current residence on First East. As owner of Marv's electric, Marv operated his business successfully success-fully for 28 years. Ruth worked by his side as secretary, bookkeeper all the while managing their home and raising the girls. Their success resulted re-sulted in acquiring other businesses: Marko Auto and Urco Manufacturing. Manufactur-ing. They renovated the buildings that housed their companies on Main Street. Marv and Ruth were members of the National Electrical Contactors Association where Marv served as both president and was elected to the Academy of National Electrical Contractors. Their association led to travels, which included Europe, Mexico, Canada, Alaska, the Philippines, Philip-pines, Australia and New Zealand. Of all their travels, returning to Switzerland where Marv's parents were born was their most cherished trips. In March, they traveled back to Switzerland, where their granddaughter grand-daughter now lives to meet their newest great grandson and travel by train to the top of Europe's highest high-est mountain; Jungfrau. As active members of the Community Com-munity Presbyterian Church, they have both served in numerous positions posi-tions including elders. Marv was the chairman of the restoration committee commit-tee for the 100 years old building now listed on the historical register. This major project included restoring restor-ing the wooden wheel that holds the rope that rings the bell, restoring the bell tower, and designing the light fixtures now hanging in the chapel. Marv and Ruth raised three daughters: Karen, Susan and Mary K. They have 7 grandchildren: Todd Marvin, Anne, Jamie. Kath-erine, Kath-erine, Stacie, Kenzie, and Landon. They also have 6 great grandchildren grandchil-dren with one new baby on the way. In addition to their family, they have made dear friends through their church life, their business and their neighbors. All have made their lives more meaningful and supported their lives through their love and friendship. Family and friends will honor them on Sunday, May 28th at the Community Presbyterian Church. While stories and dates document time, none can measure the love, faith and hope our parents' marriage has encompassed. Perhaps, the framed saying that hangs in their home best reminds us all of the magnitude mag-nitude of this event. Getting married is easy Staying married is more difficult Staying happily married for a lifetime should rank among the fine arts. Kimberly Army National Guard Pvt. Kimberly Kim-berly A.
