Police: Missing teens probably runaways Orem police are treating the disappearance of two juvenile girls as runaways, after speaking speak-ing to a friend of the girls who sat with them as they sent a text message to family members mem-bers demanding ransom money. Police say the friend told them the two girls thought it was fun to be scaring everyone by pretending. Missing are: 14-year-old Yesica Saban, Hispanic female, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 160 pounds, brown eyes, black hair. She was last seen wearing blue jeans and an unknown un-known color shirt. 1 13-year-old Sandra Merary Torres, Hispanic female, 4 feet 11 inches tall, 100 lbs, brown eyes, long brown hair, blue jeaas, brown sweater and black sneakers. Police had launched an investigation inves-tigation after text message ransom ran-som demands were received, but have scaled back the effort. "We're still looking for the two girls, but at least feel somewhat some-what confident that they are probably safe and have chosen to run away from home," said Lt. Doug Edwards, of the Orem Department of Public Safety. Edwards said Saban was dropped off at Orem Junior High School by her mother Monday morning but apparently apparent-ly never went into the school. Torres also didn't go to school Monday and was last seen at home by her mother. Sandra's mother said that Sandra had been talking on the phone Monday Mon-day morning to Yesica Saban. The two girls were listed as endangered Monday afternoon by the Orem Police Department after Yesica Saban's sister in Springville, who was exchanging exchang-ing text messages with Yesica's phone and trying to get Yesica to call her, received a text message mes-sage indicating that the family would need to pay $10,000 to see Yesica again. No other instructions or messages mes-sages were received demanding a ransom and where that should be delivered. One of the last messages received re-ceived was one sent to Saban's father at about 5 p.m. Monday evening. The message was in Spanish and said, "I'm fine, Father. Fa-ther. Don't worry.... love you."
