Sandberg won a $2,500 National Merit Scholarship. Scholar-ship. He was one of 2,500 across the country who was selected from 15 finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Prior to the presentations, each student labored la-bored at least 10 hours on providing pro-viding service to remedy their designated social ill and dozens more hours in researching and writing a lengthy paper on the topic. Andrew Hodges and J.B. Martineau estimated they had spent 30 hours each in total on their service learning project "Operation Literacy." Martineau, Martin-eau, whose family emigrated from Mexico when he was a young boy, said though he easily easi-ly caught on to English, an uncle in his forties struggled to learn the language.
