Andy has kept a 4.0 GPA throughout high school and has passed 4 AP classes so far, including the AP Calculus BC test with a score of 5. He continues to maintain main-tain a rigorous academic schedule this year, taking 4 AP classes and advanced math classes at BYU. Andy has qualified as a semifinal-ist semifinal-ist for the National Merit competition, and scored a 35 on the ACT. He is the president presi-dent of Varsity Art Club, the school's webmaster, and the clarinet section leader in Orem High's Wind Orchestra. Andy is also an Eagle Scout. He plans on attending BYU or USC to study Mathematics or Film and on serving an LDS Mission. 7 Kaylynn Christensen Dance Kaylynn Christensen, daughter of William and Kristen Christensen, has always loved the art of dance. She has been dancing for seven years and has studied stud-ied all forms of dance. When she is not dancing with Utah Academy Dance Studio, or the Orem High Dance Company, she can be found moving to any music anywhere- from the school halls to the livingroom. It is a miracle mir-acle that she has not been in a car accident because she even dances in the car! She has participated in the "Nutcraker" ballet as a snowflake, OHS Drill team, Stadium of Fire. She was also Dance Captain in the school production of "My Fair Lady." Kaylynn has been recognized rec-ognized for. her talent at many competitions. She has won many dance scholarships scholar-ships including the LA dance Magic Performer of the Month for the Utah convention conven-tion in 2001-2002 and numerous trips to National competitions. Kaylynn loves to serve others and it shows. Since her freshman year, she has been active in Student Council and is presently serving as a Student Body Cabinet member. She loves to work with the special needs kids as a peer tutor. She is involved in numerous school clubs including Key Club, STRIPES, National Honor Society, and is currently cur-rently the president and initiator ini-tiator of the "Spirit Club," This year, Kaylynn had the honor of being named the 2003 Homecoming Queen. She has recently been accepted as a state finalist for "America's Homecoming Queen" and will compete to be Utah's Homecoming Queen in April. Her goal since she was thirteen years old was to attend Brigham Young University and have the opportunity , to participate with the Cougarettes. Sara Saldana Family & Consumer Science Sara Janae Saldana was born in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas an is the fifth of seven children of Miguel and Sylvia Saldana. Multitalerited, Sara has led a very active and busy young life. She has trained and performed in dance and singing. Last year she taught dance classes at a local high school and elementary elemen-tary school. She has sung at church and community events including and hour long solo concert at Washington Square during the- 2002 Winter Olympics. Sara has served as vice-president and is currently the president of the FCCLA chapter at Orem High School. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, an honor society for Utah Valley State College. Through these organizations and her church she has organized organ-ized and participated in many service projects. In spite of all of these outside activities she has also managed to keep and excellent GPA in high school and in difficult concurrent enrollment classes from UVSC. Her goals included completing an Associates of Science this semester and her high school diploma, and continuing on to earn a bachelor or science degree. ---It S5t -tiniii Cassandra Sutton Music Cassandra Sutton is the youngest child of Bruce and Marley Sutton. A member of the Timpanogos Chamber Orchestra, she performed with the Utah Symphony and in the Temple Square Concert Series. She soloed with her school orchestra in the 2003 Concerto Night, and looks forward to soloing again this year. Cassy has served as OHS Orchestra President, concertmistress, and stringsection leader. In addition to tutoring struggling orchestra students, she teaches beginning private lessons. Cassy plays for Church meetings, meet-ings, firesides, and similar activities as well as for weddings, wed-dings, family gatherings, and other socialcommunity functions. func-tions. She has served as president presi-dent and counselor of her Young Women classes, and also on Suncrest Stake Youth council. coun-cil. Cassy plays on the OHS Tennis team, and this year was named Academic All-State. She placed First Runner-up in the Utah Valley Junior Miss Scholarship Pageant, and won the Interview competition. Recognized by her peers as a natural leader, Cassy was elected to Orem High Student Council as Senior Class President. She was elected National Honor Society Vice President for the last two years and serves her community communi-ty as a member of the Orem Youth Council. She is an active participant in Key Club, French Club, and Drama Club, as well as Assistant Editor-in-Chief on the yearbook staff. This past summer, she attended attend-ed Girl's State at Southern Utah University. A brilliant, intellectual individual, she has maintained a 4.0 GPA since junior high and through her busy schedule, and is very academically aca-demically oriented. Cassy has taken eight AP classes and five honor classes throughout her high school career. Evan Chang Science Evan L. Chang has taken eight Advanced Placement Courses at OHS and passed the AP Biology Exam with a "5" as a sophomore. Evan has been involved in OHS Lacrosse, National Honor Society, Health Occupations Students of America, Key Club, and has been recognized recog-nized by the National Honor Roll, National Society of High School Scholars, Who's Who Among American High School Students, and is an AP Scholar with Honors. As the OHS Science Club President, he hopes to attend Yale, Columbia, Princeton, Cornell, Duke, Rochester, NYU, or Oberlin College, where he plans to pursue a double-major double-major in Pre-Medicine and Music Performance. As the eldest child of Jon and JulieAnn Gledhill. Over the past several years JonAnn has discovered a natural talent tal-ent in computers and has become very interested in business and accounting. JonAnn has had the opportunity opportu-nity to use her business knowledge and skills while working as secretary for a local business. She feels honored hon-ored to represent Orem High as the Business and Marketing Sterling Scholar. JonAnn loves learning and has maintained at 4.0 GPA, even with many AP honors classes. Although she has excelled academically, she has kept balance in her life through being active in school and the community. She enjoys participating in plays, singing, and playing the piano. She has been the pianist this past year for Sunday Services at a local 'Beehive Home' assisted care living). JonAnn is a member of the National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). She attended Girl's State this past summer and enjoyed the learning opportunity it afforded her. JonAnn is looking look-ing forward to attending college col-lege and majoring in Accounting andor Business Communications. She wants to thank her family for all their love and support. Nathan Cooper Computer Technology I was born on the twenty-eighth twenty-eighth day of January in the year 1986. 1 was playing with computers before my earliest memories. My very first computer com-puter was a TI 99-4A, and a first I only used if for games. However, as I soon became board with the games that I owned, my father bought me a book on Basic. With tlus, he said, I could make my own games. These were the very humble beginnings of my skill as a computer programmer. . While attending junior high, I had the opportunity of breaking several computers with titanic struggles for power with my older brothers. From these struggles I received a big back-lash: I was now completely computer-less. computer-less. It has been said that Necessity is the mother of invention, so I became inventive; inven-tive; I ended up learning how to build my own computers from scrap parts and such. Once I acquired this skill, I became much more valuable to my less computer-sawy neighbor, who came Staking assistance. During my first year in high school, I stumbled upon another large aspect of computers com-puters which interest me greatly. Multimedia. It started start-ed when I realized that I hated the way some of my school and dance pictures turned out. After some experimentation, experi-mentation, I realized that I could greatly improve the quality of these by digital manipulation. From this, I then went into video editing and web design. N&Nk " 'It' - X - -r , ... - ..... Hsgi Danielle Murphy English Danielle Murphy is the daughter of Dan and Dianne Murphy. She is grateful to be selected as Orem High School's English Sterling Scholar. Danielle loves to learn and to sever. She is involved in many service oriented ori-ented clubs, such as NHS, KEY Club, and HUGS (Help Us Give Service). She is currently cur-rently serving as the editor-in-chief of the yearbook and Student Body Secretary at her school. Danielle was excited to have some great opportunities; one was being chosen to attend Girls' State last summer and the other was begin selected as a scholarship recipient to attend the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. last February. At school Bhe is involved in many activities including Science Club, Drama, Constitution Team, Spirit Club and leading her peers as the Congress Captain of Debate and the Reporter for FBLA. Danielle has also enjoyed many community com-munity activities including internships at the Provo-Orem Provo-Orem Chamber of Commerce and Utah Valley Magazine, the Utah Valley Youth Council, serving on the Youth Leadership Board of the Phoenix Alliance, and presiding as Laurel Class President time job; she enjoys photography, writing movies, dance, reading, playing play-ing games, and bowling. Kevin James Trade & Technical Education Kevin John James is a bright young boy who delights in learning and building. He has always wanted to build things, everything from tre-buchets tre-buchets (a mediaeval catapult) to a tree house. Kevin has never shunned any fight that would receive him, even his sixteenth year as a Type I Diabetic. Since he was two, Kevin has wrestled with this trial which is very difficult to manage, but still maintains good blood sugars. He has maintained a very good grade point average of 3.6 and has taken eight AP classes in is high school experience. Kevin is part of many clubs, including Key Club, Spirit Club, Future Business Leaders of America, HUGS, Varsity Art and Frisbee Club, which is his favorite club of them all. Kevin loves his auto classes, until Orem High ceased to offer it Since then, Kevin has now moved in the study of woods. During an interview, he states 1 almost like woods as much as auto. The work isn't as technical, and you don't get as dirty, but there is something about the smell of cedar that makes me love it!" While he drives a piece of cedar through the table saw, singing Kansas's "Carry on my Wayward Son." At home, Kevin works on a large tree house, rising to 50 feet into the air, and also has a launch deck for zip line. After school, Kevin James plans to fulfill a full-time full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After the mission, he plans to attend Brigham Young University and finds his wife there. LL g , J Meagan McEuen Visual Arts Meagan Suzanne McEuen was born and raised in Orem, Utah. She is the daughter of Bryce and Cheryl McEuen, and is the last of their six daughters to attend Orem High School. Following a line of excellence, Meagan has found great joy in learning. During her high school experience, experi-ence, she has been a member of the Orem High school chapter chap-ter of the National Honor Society, the Key Club (a national service organization), organiza-tion), and Varsity Art From a young age her passion has been art. Her creativity can even be seen in her writing and piano performances. She has explored several art mediums medi-ums and enjoys them all Her diverse art background includes Interior Design, Basic Drafting, Auto CAD, and especially drawing classes. class-es. Not only does she love art, she loves to share it with others. oth-ers. As a member of the Varsity Art cabinet, she helps plan and follow through with projects for children and those with special needs. She has always found a special joy in both children and teaching. She hopes to combine these interests and pursue a career in Art Education. Through her hard work and determination, Megan has and will continue to strive to achieve her goals. Like a fine piece of art, several sever-al elements come together to make Meagan a unique and beautiful person. Soren Siebach Social Science Soren Siebach was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to James and Julie Siebach. He is the third of five children. At school, Soren acts as an NHS councilmember and the coach for Model United Nations (MUN). He helped found People of the Ethical Treatment of Disco Skaters (PETDS) and is a member of Orem High's Peer Leaders class ( a service oriented group of students) Siebach was awarded the Walter C. Orem award for his "many years of outstanding community commu-nity service." Soren enjoys roller-skating and tennis (he is a member of the Orem High tennis team). He also plays the bassoon, and took 2nd place at the Utah State Fair Concerto Competition. Mr. Siebach enjoys films and hanging out with his friends. Soren attended American Legion Boys State in 2003, where he was elected City and County Party Chairman, City Attorney, Speaker of the House, and Senator to Boy's Nation. Siebach considers his experience at Boys' Nation as one of the defining events of his life. Soren was fortunate to be addressed by many important national leaders, including many US congressman congress-man and President George W. Bush. Soren was appointed Secretary of the Treasury at Boys' Nation. Mr. Siebach was recently accepted by Harvard University and will likely be matriculating there next fall. He plans to study Black Market and Organized Crime Theory with degrees in Economics and Sociology. Siebach hopes to attend Harvard Business School for his graduate work and become a stock broker, banker, or corporate businessman. c 1 s, . Andrea Peacock Foreign Language Andrea Peacock was born in Columbus, Ohio, to Greg and Martha Peacock and is the third of five children. She is serving currently as president presi-dent of the Orem High French Club and vice-president of the Chamber Choir. From a young age, Andrea has loved music and has played the piano since the age of five, the violin since six, and has always loved singing. She still takes private violin lessons and has performed in the Chamber Choir her junior and senior years. She has also participated participat-ed in a childrenteen modern dance company at BYU since the age of four, choreographing choreograph-ing several of her own dances. In high school she discovered a love of biology and human physiology and plans to attend BYU and then medical school. She has had the opportunity oppor-tunity of traveling to many European countries, and from a young age gained a respect and love of European culture, especially the French. Consequently, she has taken French classes since seventh grade. She is most often found listening to Journey on the radio or reading late into the night with a pile of crumpled tissues beside her. |
