Show Times Newspaper Thursday, October 9, 2003 Page A3 Victims of Domestic Violence Remembered Utah Valley State College is remembering victims of domestic violence by sharing shar-ing stories and experiences of abuse. The Clothsline Project, sponsered by the Equity Center, allows the community commu-nity and local survivors to join together to honor the victims of violence, while raising awareness about the topic. Beginning Thursday at 8 a.m., survivors of domestic violence, and those who lost family due to domestic violence, vio-lence, will have the opportunity opportu-nity to create a T-shirt, which reflects their personal person-al story. For three days these T-shirts T-shirts will be hung from a clothsline in the student quad at UVSC. They are meant to be a reminder to all who see the shirts that domestic violence is real, and it affects many people in the community. Director of the Equity Center, Jenny Chamberlain, said The Clothsline Project is an opportunity to understand under-stand the statistics of domestic violence. "It is a powerful experience," experi-ence," Chamberlain said. "It is difficult to see. The point is, if it is difficult to walk through, imagine how difficult diffi-cult it would be to live through violence day in and day out. We want to have a feeling of what the stats mean. It is appalling that people hear the data and don't realize these people are their neighbors and family members." A variety of colored T-shirts T-shirts will be provided by the Equity Center for the community so they can create cre-ate their memory. Privacy booths will be available so visitors can make their shirts without being seen by others. ana j Lt.
