Show Fall Home and Garden Page 9 Told Plumbing's radiant heating provides practical winter warmth September 2003 Imagine, with the weather turning cold, not having to deal with a furnace. fur-nace. Not worrying about changing filters and adjusting the thermostat, always waiting for the heat to turn off and on. There is an alternative. alterna-tive. Told Plumbing offers radiant heating systems, an option both in new homes and remodels. With radiant heating, tubing is run under the floors even in the walls and ceiling to carry hot water, heated in a boiler, that warms the house (and also makes for warm floors). The primary advantage advan-tage of radiant heating, said Told Plumbing heating heat-ing manager Ryan Harding, is efficiency. "It's more efficient in the long run," he said. "You have more options. Each room can be a different dif-ferent temperature and you can control different rooms." Some of the other benefits ben-efits of radiant heat is that it is virtually silent, it is cleaner and healthier healthi-er because it doesn't rely on circulated air, it is low maintenance, it takes up less space in the house, and it can be used virtually anywhere. any-where. Radiant heating can be installed under concrete slabs in the basement, and even under a driveway to melt snow and ice in the winter. Told Plumbing has been doing hydronic heating systems for near-' ly 25 years, and when Told Plumbing puts in a heating system it's designed to a customers specifications. "We get a feel of expectations expec-tations and custom build around that," Harding said. Since the investment in our homes is of such magnitude, the insurance protection should be carefully care-fully evaluated. Home values also increase over time and it is important to keep abreast of the replacement cost should a total loss occur. Many companies compa-nies offer a replacement cost policy but the home must be insured with in a certain range of value before replacement replace-ment cost is applicable. The policy may offer coverage in excess of the limit shown on the declarations page only if the home is insured within the companies compa-nies pre-determined replacement cost before the loss. Each homeowner policy has certain limits on items such as jewelry, guns, cash, computers, etc. It is important to review with your agent the special limits lim-its on your homeowners regularly since the value of these items may increase over time. Most homeowners policies offer replacement cost on your personal property up to the limits within the policy. Special care should be taken to insure documentation for high value items. Documents such as f " ' 3 I , , 1 - I I' ' j ' '""'" , . 1 t , -I I imm ' . - 1 I 4 ilv'. ili w. 1 , " ' . photos, receipts, appraisals, etc. is usu- structure is "all risk", the coverage on ally acceptable in the even of a loss, your personal property is "named While the protection on your home peril" coverage. There may be certain items such as jewelry, art, musical instruments, etc. that would be better protected by special coverage refereed to as "floater". The floater must be either endorsed to the homeowner policy pol-icy or written as a separate policy or written as a separate policy describing each insurance item. It is also important to review your liability coverage with your agent, since there may be some restriction of protection with the basic policy. For example, if you operate a home business busi-ness the liability may not extend to a loss which is related to the business. The limits on your liability may be lower than what is advisable. The liability lia-bility protection is provided in the even you are sued or become responsible responsi-ble for injury or damage to another person of property as long as it is not business or vehicle related. There are certain professions which liability from the homeowners policy may be provided i.e. nurses, school, teachers, etc. If you would like a more detailed review of your homeowners policy with no obligation please call Dave Voegele at 224-3306.
