Against Timpanogos, junior Krika Jones pitched a two-hit shutout and had two RBI for Mountain View, and Mallary Oillespie doubled in Strickland for the first run of the game. Utah County STIXX win March Madness Tournament The Utah County STIXX 13-year-old baseball team took 1st place in the Rocky Mountain School of Baseball March Madness Mad-ness Tournament in Mesquite, Nevada, March 23-25, 2001. They defeated the Ogden Outlaws 15-0 in their first game, then were defeated de-feated by the Ias Vegas StingRays with a score of 4-1. They continued contin-ued in pool play defeating the Orem Dingers (11-2) and the Ogden Indians (4-1 ). The semi-final game was against the Davis "Future Angels" The Provo Angels have announced an-nounced the formation of the "Future "Fu-ture Angels Club" for the 2001 season. The club is sponsored by Nestle and Powerade. Area kids 12 and under are eligible eli-gible for membership in the club. Benefits include free admission to all Monday home games; $1 off a general admission ticket for all Tuesday. Wednesday, and Thursday Thurs-day home games; a free Future Angels t-shirt; membership card; and an open invitation to attend monthly Future Angel Club meetings meet-ings during the season. In addition to the discounted admission prices. Future Angels will also he able to meet the players, play-ers, coaches, and even the mascot mas-cot during a special autograph and picture day. Orem lost to Region 3 leader Aha Hi-1 on Thursday, but had a good outing against Mountain View in the close loss. Timpanogos fell 14-1 toAltain a game earlier in the week. Mountain View is second in Region 3 at 4-1 , behind Alta's perfect per-fect 4-0. Orem is tied for third at 2- 2 and Timpanogos is 0-5. SOCCER It wasn't a good week for Orem teams in the tough Region 3 soccer soc-cer lead. Timpanogos fell short by one goal twice, and no Orem team was able to score a goal in three games on Wednesday. In those Wednesday games, two-time defending de-fending Class 5A champion Brighton heat Mountain View 5-0, llillcrest blanked Orem 3-0 and Jordan edged Timpanogos 1-0. On Friday, Alta got past Orem 3- 1 and Hillcrest nipped Timpanogos 2-1. Mountain View is third in the Region 3 standings, behind Brighton and Alta, at 3-2. Timpanogos and Orem are still looking for their first league win and are at 0-4 and 0-5, respectively. C3 County Stingers where the STIXX came out ahead 8-4. The championship game matched up the STIXX with the Las Vegas StingRays. The STIXX came out with a win, defeating the StingRays 5-1 to take 1st place. The Utah County STIXX team has players from Orem, Lindon, American Fork, Provo, Mapleton, Spanish Fork and Payson. They are coached by Rick Christensen, Darin Hintze, Eric Haws, and Steve Heaps. Club formed organizer Michael Melzer said. "We've already had a tremendous response to the Future Angels Club, and we know the kids are going to be glad they signed up. It's going to be the thing for kids to do this summer. The membership fee for the club is $10. "Being a part of the Future Angels is really an excellent value for kids," said Gerry McKearney, general manager. J v Tr'' i Mountain View High graduate Jeremy Redd, in action for Ricks College, signed a letter of intent to play football for Bucknell University. Jeremy Redd to play football for Bucknell Jeremy Redd, son of Jerry and Beverly Redd of Orem, Utah, recently re-cently signed a full-ride scholarship scholar-ship to play football for Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. Jeremy graduated from Mountain Moun-tain View High School, where he lettered in track, basketball and football. He was a team captain in football and holds the record at the school for interceptions. He was also BYU Football Camp MVP for two years, a member oft eh National Honor Society for four years and academic all-region for three years. While he was with the team, Mountain View won two state championships. Jeremy is also an Eagle Scout with all three Eagle Palms. After high school, Jeremy signed with Ricks College, where he started at free safety for the squad that took second in the nation na-tion and first in the WSFL Conference Con-ference with a 10-1 record. He was team leader in interceptions and was named academic all-conference with a 3.8 GPA. He served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Bulgaria Sofia Mission. State FreestyJe Wrestling Champions The Utah, USA Freestyle State Wrestling tournament was held Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Weber We-ber High School. Two Lakeridge Junior High School students participated par-ticipated in the schoolboy division (13 and 14 year olds) and came away as state champions placing first in their weight classes. Kevin Bauer and Josh Sorenson each won individual titles in the 115 lbs. And 140 lbs. Weight classes respectively.
