A native of Ithaca, New York, she earned bachelor and master of music degrees in performance at the Eastman School of Music, where she received many awards and prizes. She has presented recitals throughout the United States and was a featured soloist solo-ist with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on its 1991 tour of Europe and Russia. Lum made her debut with the Honolulu Symphony at the age of eight and has since appeared with many leading orchestras. She received bachelor's and master's degrees from Julliard and is an established estab-lished chamber player, choral director, di-rector, organist, violinist, opera and vocal coach, and music teacher - not to mention a practicing prac-ticing attorney in Washington, DC. July 21 - Soprano Jan Leth Millard, with Allison Baker at the piano, will perform art songs of Joseph Marx, Hermit Her-mit Songs of Samuel Barber, selections se-lections from "Ariettes Oubliees" by Debussy, and selections from twelve poems by Emily Dickinson set by Aaron Copland. Millard was trained at the Kansas Kan-sas City Conservatory, where she earned a master of music degree. She has performed major operatic oper-atic roles at the Aspen Music Festival, Fes-tival, Opera of the Ozards, and elsewhere. - - Friday. July 23 - The Saltaires Show Chorus, 100 strong, take to the stage for a program of min strelsy, heart songs; and sacred music - barbershop style. Beginning Begin-ning in 1989 with 14 original members, the group finished in the top ten in world competition at their third consecutive international inter-national barbershop convention and contest. Members hail from . the greater Salt Lake metropolitan metropoli-tan area and come from as far south as Spanish Fork and north to Pocatello, Idaho, according to Bruce Gunderson, music vice president. July 24 - The Beehive Bee-hive Band occupies a unique niche in Utah music, performing authentic songs, ballads, and dance tunes of the Utah pioneers on musical instruments common in the 1800s (fiddle-, English concertina, tin whistle, wooden flute, banjo, and mandolin, among others). The many immigrants immi-grants who came directly to Utah from England, Scotland, Scandinavia, Wales, and Ireland brought this music, which mixed with folk music traditions common com-mon to rural America of the period, pe-riod, Intriguing titles, such as "The Boys of Sanpete County," "Captain Kidd," and "Down in Dixiethe Hiccups," are programmed pro-grammed side by side with "0 My Father" and "All'ls Well" in this Pioneer Day program. ' Members of the band are Mark Jar dine and Stephen Jardine, both founding members of the Deseret .String Band and Tenpenny, Stan Jensen, and Mark Williams.
