Pleasant Grove 16 Payson 1 Pleasant Grove scored 11 runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back in a 16-1 rout of Payson Friday in Region 6. Jake Morris blasted a grand slam homer and Chance Scott ripped a solo shot right after that to start off the scoring barrage. Morris went 4-4 for the day and had five RBI. Derek Gunther hit a three-run home run in the third, was 3-4 and also had five RBI. Josh Brady held Payson to just three hits while striking out seven. Pleasant Grove 6 Lone Peak 4 Cameron Schoell came up with two big two-out hits to help Pleasant Grove to an important Region 6 victory over Lone Peak. Both hits drove in one run and extended innings, allowing more runs to score. The Vikings led 6-1 going into the bottom of the seventh, but Lone Peak put three runs across to make things interesting before Chance Scott struck out the final fi-nal batter to end the game. Pleasant Grove improved its record to 9-3 on the season. SOFTBALL Mountain View 7 Brighton 1 Haley Larsen logged two RBI to help Mountain View to a 7-1 win over Brighton in Region 3 action Wednesday. Mountain View had a four run lead after the first inning. Larsen and Shannon Lewis combined for the win. Mountain View 3 Orem 1 Mountain View scored one run in each of the first three innings, then held off a tough Orem team for the victory Friday. Chelsie McWhorter drove in the Bruins' first run and scored their final one on a Haley Larsen RBI. In between, Davia King, running for Desi Allied, put in a nifty bit of base running to score on a Sarah Sa-rah Nichols RBI in the second. Orem got its only score on a Trina Knapp single in the sixth. Shannon Lewis gave up only three hits on her way to the win on the mound. Mountain View improved its league record to 7-2, Orem dropped to 2-6.
