The Utah Shakespearean Festival Fes-tival recently announced the cast for the 1999 educational tour of Macbeth. The actors in the professional pro-fessional company, called the "best yet" by Festival officials, will present a shortened version of Macbeth, as well as various workshops, to middle schools and high schools throughout Utah and the intermountain west. Fletcher McTaggart has been cast in the title role. He is currently cur-rently enrolled in the master of fine arts program at the University Univer-sity of Delaware, and was recently re-cently seen in the Festival's 1998 productions of All's Well that Ends Well, King John, and The Timing of the Shrew. I The role of Lady Macbeth will I be played by Maren Maclean, a ' graduate of Southern Utah University's theatre program. Maclean, who played Lady Capulet in the Festival's 1998 tour of Romeo and Juliet, has played Lady Macbeth before in the Festival's 1995 tour production, produc-tion, and most recently played Titania in the Festival's 1998 production of The Royal Feaste. Didi Doolittle and Sean Critchfield join the company as Lady MacDuff and Duncan. Both were members of the Utah Shakespearean Festival's 1998 Revels Company. Doolittle is a recent graduate of theatre arts at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri; Critchfield is currently a student of theatre at the University Uni-versity of Nevada-Las Vegas. In addition, several theatre students from Southern Utah University have been hired to act in the professional company. Brandon Jones, a senior from Salt Lake City, will play MacDuff; Sharla Lundberg, a senior from Salt Lake City, will play Malcolm; and Jared Larkin, a graduating senior from Hurricane, Hurri-cane, will portray Banquo. Michael Don Bahr, the production's director and director direc-tor of education at the Festival, calls this cast "one of the most vibrant and dynamic groups we've ever had." Bahr is impressed im-pressed by the talent and training train-ing of the actors, and is excited by their enthusiasm. "These actors ac-tors have all worked together before, and they are excited to perform together again." The college- and graduate school-trained actors will be paid as they travel from school to school with one of Shakespeare's best known tragedies. They will perform the show for the studentbody, then conduct workshops work-shops in various classes on costuming, cos-tuming, acting, and other aspects of theatre. "These actors are educationally education-ally oriented," Bahr said. Their energy, and their love for Shakespeare will inspire student audiences, especially with this script, which includes battles, blood, witches, and unforgettable characters." Bahr will be joined behind the scenes by other professionals whose jobs will be vital to the : success of the production. Robert M. Stamm III, a former student ". at Southern Utah University, 1 will serve as the technical direc- x tor for the tour; Alyssa Dykman, a senior at SUU, will serve as stage manager. Michael Harding, ; a graduate of the Professional Theatre Training Program at the University of Delaware, has been hired as company manager; and Chris Villa, a professor of theatre at the University of California at Irvine, joins the company as the production's fight director. "This is a great show, particularly particu-larly for high schools," Bahr said. "Our production will be very accessible ac-cessible to any kind of audience." The company will begin rehearsals re-hearsals for the fourteen-week tour on January 10, 1999, and will have approximately two and a half weeks of rehearsal before opening the show to audiences. ConSU ITS OS'S should know responsibility around homo inspection v When guying a home, consumers consum-ers need to be aware of their ob-ligation ob-ligation regarding a "walk through" inspection prior to taking tak-ing possession of the home they are buying, according to real estate es-tate company Mansell & Associates. Associ-ates. In section 11 of the buyer's contract it says: "Before settlement, buyer may, upon reasonable notice and at a reasonable time, conduct a 'walkthrough' 'walk-through' inspection of the property prop-erty to determine only that the property is 'as represented,' meaning that the items referenced refer-enced (for replacement or repair) are respectively present, re-. re-. paired or changed as agreed, and in the warranted condition. If the items are not as represented, seller will, prior to settlement, replace, correct or repair the items or, with the consent of buyer (and lender if applicable), escrow an amount of settlement to provide for the same. The failure fail-ure to conduct a walk-through inspection, or to claim that an item is not as represented, shall not constitute a waiver by buyer of the right to receive, on the date of possession, the items as represented." rep-resented." "The courts have indicated that responsibility to observe patent and discoverable latent defects falls upon the buyer of the home and is usually accomplished by hiring a knowledgeable home inspector in-spector to scrutinize the home before, finalizing a sale," said Brad Mortenson, manager of Mansell's office in Orem. "If the buyer wants a home inspection, a real estate agent can give the buyer a referral." The home inspector looks at several items including, but not limited to, electrical, roofing (outside (out-side as well as the structure from the' attic), layers of shingles, basement (furnace and hot wa ter heater), holes in siding or stucco, and plumbing. "Buyers are often embarrassed to open cabinets or test faucets," said Mortenson. "A home inspector can easily and comfortably handle those items that my be awkward to a prospective buyer." After an offer is made and has been accepted by the seller, the inspector is called and the findings find-ings are reported to the buyer and seller. "The seller is obligated in Section 10.2 of the contract to make sure the items are in working work-ing order," noted Mortenson. "The seller warrants the home until time of possession." Mortenson's final recommendation recommen-dation to buyers is that they ask their real estate agent to set up an appointment with the seller to do a final walk-through to make sure everything is in order.
