This year, for the first time, the Utah Valley Choral . Society will offer two evenings, , Dec. 5 and 6, in the Provo Tabernacle Taber-nacle for those who wish to join in on some of the choruses of Handel's masterpiece. The sing-in will begin at 7:30 each night, with carol singing from 7 until curtain time under the direction of the choir's director, direc-tor, Lois Johnson. Ealph G. Laycock will conduct a live chamber orchestra. Patrons who do not have their own score may rent one or purchase one at the door. Soloists are Susan Deauvono, soprano; Rebecca Dimick, alto; George Dyer, tenor; and Clayne Robison, bass. This year, the Choral Society will sing five of the lesser-known choruses, while the audience will be invited to join in on the more familiar ones. Two seldom-heard seldom-heard choruses, "And He Shall Purify" and "Let Us Break Their Bonds Asunder," will be sung by the choir. Admission is $5 per person. Tickets will be available at the door but many also be purchased in advance in Utah Valley from Media Play, Best in Music, Sum-merhays Sum-merhays Music and Keith Jor-gensen Jor-gensen Music. This is the 13th annual "Messiah" Sing-in sponsored by the Choral Society. Johnson says that like Christmas trees, Handel's "Messiah"is an institution, institu-tion, and "the holidays just wouldn't be the holidays without "Messiah'." Characterizing the sing-in as a "participation sport," she said that people enjoy it because it doesn't demand the polish that a choir does. "You just get in there and sing." Students will be able to chip away the cost of their library fines by donating commercially canned food items to the library from December 2-19. One dollar will be waived from current fines for each can of food brought to the library, however, some restrictions may apply. AcT counts with balances that have previously gone to collections, will not be affected nor will students stu-dents be able to pay for lost books with canned food items. All food collected will go to the Utah County Food Bank. Library hours are Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. They will extend their business hours Monday through Friday by one hour beginning December Decem-ber 9. These hours will end December 18, For more information informa-tion on hours or the program, call 222-8265. "At Coit Your cleaning receives personal attention."
