Show Times Newspaper Wednesday, November 27, 1996 Pacje 9 Utah Valley Symphony sets Christmas Concert Dec. 3 & 4 Soprano JoAnn Ottley will headline the concert as the Utah Valley Symphony ushers in the Christmas season on Wednesday Wednes-day and Thursday, Dec. 3 & 4, in the Provo Tabernacle. The annual holiday event begins at 7:30 p.m. under the baton of Clynn D. Barrus. Tickets Tick-ets are available at the door at $5 ($4 for students and senior citizens). Ample free parking is available west of the tabernacle at NuSkin. Ottley, widely known as a recitalist and soloist with symphony sym-phony orchestras, will perform Gounod's "Ave Maria," plus "Come Unto Him" and "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth", from Handel's "Messiah". She will also be featured in an arrangement arran-gement of Pietro Yon's "Gesu Bambino" by local composer Marden Pond, who will conduct that piece as well as his arran gement of Mozart's Twelve Variations on "Ah! vous dirai-je Maman". The concert will open with Gustav Hoists' "The Planets", including the Mars, Venus, Uranus, and Jupiter movements. move-ments. The orchestra will end the program with Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" and Carmen Dragon's arrangement of "Silent Night." i Ottley, whose reputation as a fine soprano extends far beyond Utah, studied with Lowell and Naomi Farr, Victor Fuchs, Neil Wilson, Josef Mat-ternich Mat-ternich and Mme Vera Rozsa. She and her husband, Jerold Ottley, Ot-tley, studied together in Cologne at the Staatlische Hochschule fur Musik on a dual Fulbright Grant. ; The soprano voice of Ottley has performed throughout the West Coast and Intermountain area of the U.S., plus Europe, South America, Japan, and Korea in oratorios and operas, and with choral symphonies. Jody Renstrom will perform her one-woman show, "Mary, the Chosen", on December 4 at 2:30 p.m., at the Senior Friendship Center, 93 North 400 East in Orem. Mrs. Renstrom has performed her one-hour interpretation of Mary's life nationally over the past ten years. Mrs. Renstrom's interpretation interpreta-tion of the mother of the Savior helps everyone find the true spirit of Christmas. You will walk in Mary's footsteps and experience ex-perience her joys, sorrows, and struggles as she comes to life on stage. ": Everyone is invited to come and bring a friend. Beth Ti dwell played the prelude music, and President Millie Ashby conducted con-ducted the meeting. ; LaVaun Turner and Lucille Infanger served as hostesses. Ruth Hales led the pledge to the flag. The litany consisted of two readings "Growing Older" and "Winter. Dawn", both read by La von Fullmer. Joyce Mer-ryweather Mer-ryweather read the minutes of the November 6 meeting and they were approved. Jane Anderberg introduced the musical number which was presented by Mark and Kira Davis and their three daughters --Jennifer, Elizabeth, andMar-garet. andMar-garet. They presented a musical ensemble of Jewish and Irish songs. " . Ruby Nicol introduced the guest speaker, Julia Kirkiakov Caswell, who spoke on freedom after being born in Bulgaria and moving to several communist "countries, where she was imprisoned im-prisoned until many miracles helped her get to France. She also related the story of her conversion con-version to the LDS Church. . Julia is a teacher at the Missionary Mission-ary Training Center and speaks 12 different languages. She reminded the group of the freedoms that are enjoyed in America.
