Stendahl on Friday, May 10. She has been appointed to serve another five-year term with the Near East Mission, Istanbul, Turkey, beginning September 1, , 1996. She will work in the area of Christian-Muslim relations and relationships with other Christians in Istanbul, as well as being a part-time teacher at the Uskudar Amerikan Lisesi. For the past 15 years, Alison Stendahl has participated in a meaningful but delicate, fruitful but fragile ministry of Christian-Muslim dialogue in Turkey. Whereas most missionaries are invited by partner churches, such as the United Congregational Congrega-tional Church of Southern Africa or the Church of North India, there are no such affiliates af-filiates in Turkey. Instead, Alison's partnerships are with individuals. "We are in partnership, for example, with the Health and Education Foundation, which has picked up more of the leadership leader-ship in the running and maintenance main-tenance of our schools and hospital,". hospi-tal,". Stendahl has said. "The people in this partnership are Turkish Muslims who, for the most part, were educated in our ' schools. Their orientation is western and they are sensitive to the current atmosphere brought about by increased Is It i!P' esjb Bank of American Fork lamic militancy within Turkey and throughout the world." This is a very good opportunity oppor-tunity for an informative and interesting in-teresting evening to hear firsthand about the work Stendahl Sten-dahl is currently doing in the Middle East, particularly in the area of Christian-Muslim relations rela-tions a most crucial matter these days especially as expressed ex-pressed through her educational work in Turkey.
