Show Wednesday, May 24, 1995 CITY SPORTS Page 3 two-run homers to eliminate the Warriors 8-7. The Tigers were ready to face the Bruins again. Second baseman Todd Mitchell had looked forward to facing Taylorsville, but he didn't mind another Orem-Mountain View game at all. "It's great any time you can beat those guys," he said, "Its a classic State Championship. Cham-pionship. We're friends off the field, but we want to take then on the field." Senior Seth King looked forward to playing their cross-town rivals as well. He said, "It was fun, they've always " thought they were better than us. It's a good rivalry." King started on the mound for the Tigers in the final game. He kept the Bruins in control with only one run an inning. The Tigers answered two of those runs, making it a close 3-2 ballgame in the fourth. That is when Orem senior Lance Erickson came in. He shut down the Bruin offense, riving up only two hits in the final four innings. With Erickson overpowering the Bruin bats, the Tiger offense kicked into gear. Jason Gonzales Gon-zales and Max Olsen walked, then catcher Shawn Peterson singled to load the bases. Mountain Moun-tain View's Danny Tollestrup walked King to bring in a run, and Jon Clark hit a two RBI single. Erickson brought in one more fun that inning with a sacrifice fly. The rest of the game was all Orem defense as Erickson Erick-son and his teammates finished the Bruins off. Both Coach Harward and Bruin Coach JefTGustin praised Erickson on an excellent game and a stellar senior season. "He came through for them," said Gustin, "He kept us from doing what we wanted to." Harward called Erickson's 103 season strikeouts "Amazing." His 11 win, 2 loss record was even better bet-ter than Tiger alumnus Eric Boyers 9-2 record. "He's the kind of pitcher that only comes along once in a lifetime for most coaches," noted Harward. Tve been really lucky to coach guys like Cade Schaerrer, Eric Boyer and Lance." But Erickson wasn't the only Tiger pitcher receiving praise (Continued on next page) TWB We want the scoop on what's happening in Orem. Ca!l in news tips.
