Conservation officers offi-cers have had reports of fruit-eating bears in East Carbon, a nuisance nui-sance bear at the Sunnyside Mine, and camp-robbing bears on Bruin Point. Bears have been reported re-ported at Ferron Reservoir, Grassy Lake, Joe's Valley, Hunt ington Canyon ana tne Avin-taquin Avin-taquin campground. DWR officials urge campers and hunters to keep food safely away from bears. Never feed a bear. Once a bear is fed, he associates asso-ciates humans with food and prowls campsites for a hand-out. Such a bear may become a real threat to human safety. If you encounter a black bear (the only kind of bear found in Utah), make noise. Yell, bang pots and throw rocks to scare it away. Don't play dead and don't run away, it you are attacked, fight back and be aggressive. Your best defense is a strong offense. of-fense. For other tips on safety in bear country, the DWR has produced pro-duced a brochure entitled "Safety in Cougar and Bear Country," available at all DWR offices. "Temperatures have stayed high and precipitation has stayed low. We are asking hunters to remember that open fires, including warming fires, are prohibited."
