"Representatives of Itoyo Kado Corporation, who recently acquired all of Southland Corporation's 7-11 Food Stores, were at UVCC for six days and stayed with host families," said Mai an Jackson, UVCC Director of International Studies. "During their stay, they'll studied English, American culture cul-ture and customs as it relates to American business and American life," said Shunji Aoki, UVCC Director of Japan International Exchange. 'These people chose to come to UVCC instead of East Coast or West Coast schools because people are friendlier in Utah," said Aoki. This international exchange program is available to students and business people in Japan and in America. It can last anywhere from one week to one year depending on the type of program, said Aoki. "UVCC is entering contract negotiations with Japanese Colleges Col-leges that enables business people and students to come and study at UVCC and receive degrees from both colleges. Japanese students who attend a Japanese college for a year, and enter this exchange program with UVCC for a year, may acquire degrees from both colleges;" said Aoki. American students may do the same, earning degrees from both schools, and are under the same guidelines and restrictions, he said. "Groups that come to UVCC in this program, pay for their expenses expen-ses which includes tuition, books and living costs. In addition, thCy also donate money to UVCC's international in-ternational scholarship fund to be used for international students and their studies," said Jackson. "We would also like to see American and Japanese teacher exchanges with each teaching their own language, culture and customs," said Aoki. For more information call Malan Jackson, Director of International Inter-national Studies at 222-8000, extension ex-tension 8334. The laws also revised the process for the selection of board members. Now, Board members are selected through a recommendation process by local nominating committees from each of the 15 districts. The committees com-mittees submit three to five names to the Governor's office which in turn reduces the number to two to place on the election ballot in November. Nominating committee chairperson chair-person for District 14 is Dr. Luana Searle, an administrator with the Alpine School District. Other members are: David Cox, Lehi; Marilyn Kofford, Alpine; Orr Hill, Riverton; Don LeBaron, Highland; DeVere Fowler, Lehi; Harley Jacobs, Pleasant Grove. Applications along with a resume are to be submitted to the nominating committee by June 15, 1992. According to Dr. Searle, the only requirements for election to the State Board are residency in the district of representation and current voter registration. Application forms or further information are available from the nominating committee at the following address: Dr. Luana Searle, Alpine School District, 575 North 100 East, American Fork, Utah 84003 (756-8424). They are also available from the County Clerks office. Completed forms are to be submitted to the same address by the June 15 deadline. Mt.
