Lady Tigers back on track after winning two By Kemari J. Goble This past week the Lady Tigers took on two tough opponents op-ponents and were able to defeat both by a super margin. On Tuesday, Tues-day, against the Provo Bulldogs, the team's leading scorer was Carmen Bahr with 17 points and teammate Tami frame sank 14 points for the Tigers for a final score of 61 to 47. Then on Thursday night, They were able to shut down the Timpview Thunderbirds altogether and come away with a 76 to 52 victory. With these two hard earned victories the Lady Tigers are definitely back on track. Their now 13 and 1 on the season and 2 and 1 in region play. With two tough games behind them and a healthy, fired up team, I'd say the Lady Tigers are well on their way ' to an awesome regular season. The girls next game will be held Thursday, Jan 17th at home against The Mountain View Bruins. Game time, 7:00pm. This is one game you won't want to miss so everyone come out and support the Lady Tigers on to another victory. No Ifs, Ands or Buts about it, Tigers Ruffled Thunderbird's Feathers By Kemari J. Goble When it comes to sports, there is one word I hate to hear and that is the word "If. It seems like when you lose a game, that word comes up an uncountable number of times. I have always felt you can't live on "If. However in life we gradually learn that there always al-ways seems to be an exception. Therefore here comes my latest exception. "If there were ever a game that the Orem Tigers deserved to win, it would have to be the game they played Friday night against the undefeated Timpview Thunderbirds. It wouldn't be an understatement under-statement to say that the Thunderbirds had their feather's ruffled more then a bit. Early on, it would become apparent to the Timpview team, just exactly what kind of game was in store for them. Things were extremely tight in the first period. The Orem Tigers were holding the opposition opposi-tion defensively. Timpview was unable to make anything happen inside while Orem' ?-ian Rassmussen was having no problem prob-lem getting the inside shot and hitting everything from the top of the key to keep the score close. With seconds remaining in the first period, Orem's Tyler Nelson sank two points to bring the Tigers within three. Then on a rebound from a Timpview missed shot, with four seconds remaining in the period, Tiger Brian Rassmussen from almost half court dropped a three pointer to tie the game 17 all. In the second quarter Tiger teammates Steve Mackey, Adam Rassmussen, Mike Cameron and Gary Chipman also saw some action ac-tion and were able to do their part in keeping things tight for the Tigers. Also with Chipman and Cameron inside it gave Orem an even edge on Height against the powerful Thunderbirds. With 2:35 seconds remaining in the second period Tiger Gary Chip-man Chip-man hit a desperately needed two points to bring the Tigers within five points again 32 to 27. With 13 seconds before the half Tyler Nelson Nel-son sank two from the line shooting shoot-ing one on one and making it a half time score of 34 to 29 for the Thunderbirds. Spirits soared in the second half and the Tigers offense came alive. Bryce Hull was at it again when he hit one of his famous three pointers to bring the Tiger's within one in the middle of the third period 40 to 39. Then Tyler Nelson dropped a quick two to meet the timpview basket to stay within two once again 42-41. Things really turned around in the next Orem possession when Cameron Johnson went underneath under-neath for two to take the lead 43-42 Orem. Jon Sanders on a steal put the icing on the cake by sinking two points and then following fol-lowing a Bryce Hull steal, swished a three pointer to give the Tigers a 48 to 42 lead. Going into the fourth period the Tigers led 57 to 47, but they knew that the Thunderbirds, if not held would swoop down upon them like prey and try to regain the lead. Unfortunately for the Tigers the game referees would assist in making that comeback all to easy. A foul was called on Cameron Johnson next Adam Rassmussen was called for double dribble, Tyler Nelson would somehow receive credit for a foul and before you knew what had taken place the score was tied 63 all with a minute remaining in the game. With 42 seconds left to play Tyler Nelson was fouled and went to the line shooting one on one. Under so much pressure, the first shot was missed. Next, Adam Rassmussen was called for a foul. The tables were turned and Timpview was at the line shooting shoot-ing one on one. They dropped one shot an d got the reboun d after the second shot was missed. Jon Sanders was called for a personal foul and then with nine seconds remaining in the game Brian Rassmussen also adopted a personal per-sonal foul. Timpview's man at the line sank one shot and the Thunderbirds led 65 to 63 with only three seconds remaining in the game Brian Rassmussen with an awesome effort put up the last shot for Orem that as luck would have it didn't drop. Now I'm not one to say what "If and to blame anyone for a loss, especially a referee however anyone who saw the Tigers play knows exactly what happened and I think it is safe to say that the Thunderbirds were wiping the sweat from their feathers. Brian Rassmussen was the Tiger's leading scorer with 17 points. Tyler Nelson followed with 16, Bryce Hull and Cameron Johnson both put away 8 points, Adam Rassmussen and Jon Sanders were good for 5 points a piece and Steve Mackey and Gary Chipman both had two. After the game Tyler Nelson commented: " It was a tough one to lose and we iOeuldn't have played much bet- ftr." The Tigers are now 1 and 2 on the season. They lost a close one on Wednesday against Provo. Their next game is this Friday at Mountain View. Game time 7:30pm. One thing that would really help the team would be to get more support from the students. stu-dents. Everybody come out and help cheer the team on. Lets fill the stands at Mountain View after all the teams we play at home, haven't had to much problem prob-lem filling our stands. This next game is a big one so everyone come out. t " . , it J Suzanne Paulson fires away against Provo. HV5 Athlete of the Week JENNIFER SCHLAPPI Mt.
