Orem tied the Lady T-Birds 0-0. Lady Tiger kickers tie Timpview 0-0 By Steve Blackwell It was one of those days where a better team was obvious, but unable to put any points on the board. The Orem High girls soccer soc-cer team dominated their match against the Timpview T-Birds outshooting their opponents 25-3. Orem just had a problem putting the ball in the back of the net I "I felt we controlled the game," noted Orem coach Garlan Fitzgerald, "We just couldn't get our shots in. They had a good goalie, but some of our shots were taken too far out. It was very lopsided lop-sided when you look at our shot ratio, and frustrating for our girls." Orem managed to control the midfield game for most of the afternoon. Halfback Jenlyn Honeycutt combined with Lori MacArthur dominated their area on the field setting up many of the Lady Tigers' shots with their up-' field passes. The heat played a part in the game as well. Under temperatures tempera-tures of 95 degrees, Orem and Timpview were both seen making numerous substitutions. According Accord-ing to Fitzgerald, this often takes a bit away from one's game because be-cause it is easy to replace the ath- loto Kut Tint trio alriller TilnvAT The Tigers had several opportunities, oppor-tunities, and under average circumstances, cir-cumstances, a goal is made every 10 or so shots. With this in mind, Fitzgerald commented, "I think we should have won the game our offensive forwards are more confident now and they are usually able to score for us. Timpview hqs a decent defense but not a strong offense and maybe we weren't mentally aware during the game." Even after the two-five minute period overtime the Lady Tigers were scoreless and fruafrntAfl. ' One interesting note to the Tiger line-up, Orem has 3 twins playing on the varsity team from the same family. Lori MacArthur, the right forward, and her twin Lindy MacArthur are accompanied accom-panied by their little sister Deb-1 bie MacArthur who also has a twin brother. Orem is at P.G. tonight at 7:30. Orem is expected to win over one of the weakest teams in the region, but Fitzgerald says he isn't looking past them. Orem will then host region favorites Mountian View Bruins on Friday. Orem is now one point behind Mountain View in the Shane Lawrence completes recruit training Navy Seaman Recruit Shane B. Lawrence, son of Sid C. and Sandra P. Mountain View beat Provo 4-0 on Wednesday, Sept. 5. "We did not allow one shot on goal the whole game, no corner kicks and only one goal kick. It was the best defensive effort I have seen for the last two years. This team is one of the strongest in the region and still getting better, bet-ter, because the girls are dedicated dedi-cated at practice and vocused on repeating." Mountain View faced Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove on Wednesday, Sept. . 12 at home and came away with an 8-1 victory. Coach LaHargoue was pleased with defensive and offensive play. "We gave up only two or three shots on goal, but they were not quality shots. Pleasant Grove scored their only point on a free kick. The Bruins played a disciplined passing zone. When that's on we are tough to beat" The half-time score was 5-0 for Mountain View so Coach LaHargoue La-Hargoue had the opportunity to try people at different positions for the second half. In the first half Tisha Cox had two balls on goal, as did Teresa Cardall, followed fol-lowed by one by Sheree House. In the second half, Teresa scored twice and Sheree put in one more. Friday, the Bruins beat American Fork 4-0. Bruin team captain, Sheree House, felt the team really came together on that one. "We really played well as a team and passed the ball. Even though the scoring wasn't as high, I think we played better ball. The defense put together what Mike has taught us. We were in position and it was a good flowing game." The first score of the game came when Jamie Dodge took the ' ball down the right side of the field, then crossed the ball into the middle and passed it in front of Tisha Cox, just out of reach for 111! ipHHHiHIHWHWni Bruin Teresa Cardall scored four goals in Wednesday's soccer game against Pleasant Grove. a strong kick. In a nice effort, Tisha slid into the ball knocking it into the goal. Next Teresa Cardall and Tisha were playing good pursuit defense on their full-backs. A Pleasant Grove full-back tried to pass back to the goalie. Teresa intercepted the pass and put it past the goalie, one on one. The last goal of the first half came when Shoshauna Brown was out on the right wing, got the ball and made a left-footed shot into the goal. In the middle of the second half, Jamie Dodge took the ball down the right wing. No one was in the middle so Jamie took the . shot from the far post and stuck it right into the net. 'The defense was really good," commented Coach LaHargoue. "They rose to the occasion and played tight zone on two outside wings. American Fork is very tenacious and they go after the ball extremely well. They can intimidate in-timidate their opponent. The only times they have ever, been shutout shut-out are once by Alta and three times by Mountain View." "Our goalie, Laurel Gooch, is the whole key to our defense and this was her best game ever. She has started coming into her own as a goalie in Utah Valley, and she is only a ninth grader."
